Trade Parayko sign Mikkola to some term
I assume all UFAs will be dealt at the deadline (still on the fence about Barbashev, hate to lose him)…this team is in major need of retooling for the upcoming model year of 2023-24. Sadly the D prospect pool for the Blues isn’t as choice as the forwards so those UFA trades better net some good ones.
Makes sense and I’m not surprised. No real point to pay Mikkola 2 mil to be a physical 3rd pairing d-man when it looks like Tyler Tucker can likely take over that role.
We also have Matt Kessel in the AHL who has good size and skating. He looks like he has potential to step into a 3rd pairing role maybe as soon as next season.
If I’m remembering correctly, wasn’t Mikkola pretty hit or miss in the playoffs last year? I loved the idea of developing him into the defensive d man, but not sure he has necessarily sold the front office on his ability to take that role going beyond this contract
