Vrana's contract is going to be terminated. His good buddy Vitek Vanecek is gonna lure him to Jersey on a cheap deal.

WHAT?? Vrana on waivers?? Yeah, there's a disconnect there, for sure–maybe, you're right about them just wanting him to stay in the minors longer, but, he might just get picked up, we'll see, but this is a tad of a shocker, and that cap hit of $5Mil +, ouch. Good on the Blues to sign Joel Hofer to a great deal: he will definitely be the backup next season after Greiss departs. The Blues are about to start the retool around Kyrou and Thomas, I expect many changes by seasons' end. Thanks for the WJC update, also.
Even if Vancouver found a way to move Millers contract they would just end up over paying Horvat and bd up in the same situation.
As a Wings fan, I would agree that this is more than just clearing a roster spot. I was a little concerned when they traded for him in the first place because word was he was on the outs with the organization in Washington as well. Going from problems in Washington to problems in Detroit doesn’t look good. That said…no one knows what he’s gone through / is going through. I hope everything works out and this is simply a way to keep him in Grand Rapids longer. The other side is…if they do go the termination route, I think that means Stevie Y has something up his sleeves.

merkley…won't have much trade value. nothing really to say on vrana until i know wtf is going on.
For some reason, I thought Vrana's salary was much less than 5+M for this season and next. Maybe he'll get claimed, but that contract, combined with his situation will make lot of teams nervous. JT Miller is obviously a jerk, and will be extremely tough to move. Canucks would have to retain about 2M/yr, and add a sweetener, or take back a questionable contract. Huge mistake by Canucks management. Seems like every player in the league may be headed to Toronto.
The Canucks have only themselves to blame. How much BS do you deal with, before you do something. How does Boudreau even a job? Plus all the trade talk of every guy worth anything. This is a shit show, and Rutheford and GM to me are to blame. Time for a full fledge rebuild.
Unfortunate situation for Merkley. I can definitely understand his frustration with not getting a real crack at an NHL roster spot after all this time. It doesn’t really help that the sharks picked up David Quinn who is notorious for not playing rookies especially when it seems like with the direction of the sharks they will need to start leaning on young more inexpensive talent in the upcoming years.
