Pretty brutal second period today but let's not act like Oilers made the WCF last year after a tremendous regular season. Not even halfway through the season and pretty close to the same spot as last year so not really as much to panic about. Gotta see how the next few weeks go but don't get how some people act like a mediocre year means trade everyone or trade for a magical answer to solve all problems lol
A full year of Manson now and no solid structure or even acceptable levels of focus and compete. Time for Manson to go. Bring in an analytics defensive guru.
Currently paying the cost of some very bad contracts: The $2.7M/year backup is the better goalie (great deal for Oilers, but bad team dynamic). The $5M/year starter goalie is bottom 5 in the league. Nurse is paid like Makar at $9M/year but plays like a $4.5M. Oilers could pay 3 young, solid defensemen $3M/year instead of Nurse. Ceci and Puljujarvi are both completely ineffective on the ice all season this year. Something's at a loss when we are relying on Kostin and Derek Ryan to score like Mcdaddy in order to win a hockey game.
The only shot this team is going to have at playoffs this spring is Evander coming back in February with numbers similar to last spring.
As a Oiler fan if we don't change this defence we are going no where. The coach is right this team needs to play 60 minutes of hockey and as well to play as a team.

Holland is a trash GM who only looks good because McDrai went bananas in the playoffs last year. Holland is a crap GM who only has cups because a cap didnt exist in those red wings days, he was gifted cups thanks to elite players. All this stems from Katz being a bad owner, a gross sexists loser in Nicholson being our terrible PoHo who was allowed to bring in Chiarelli and Holland. Woody is one of the few good things to come from this organization. Not his fault the roster he has been handed is a mess.
It was a mess last year as well, we literally went to game 7 against the kings and the BoA being an offensive series benefitted us. We got swept by the Avs and it was fitting. Making a final 4 doesnt mean anything since every year is different. Look at the Rangers last year, they had the easiest path facing two teams with backup goalies to get to the final 4 as well
This team is just too into themselves and are playing like a bunch of primadonnas. I just don't get it. Good thing I don't have the money to waste on tickets to see this team live. I thought that maybe at this stage in their careers, would've all 'learned lessons' already. Enough with the tiring rhetoric already.😩

Defense is the problem… has been all along. Media needs to push this more.
Teams know Oilers are desperate. Holland knows he will have to pay for any of these targets.
