I mean let’s just remember Tampa didn’t win their division let alone their conference every year they went to the finals. It’s not over if we don’t win the central, and I find it very unlikely we miss the playoffs entirely

  2. wakeuphicks

    I called 1-800-GOALS-NOW but I got a busy signal

  3. Vivid_Walk_1405

Gosh me stink rn. I really hope we can actually get healthy.

  4. Bear-Ferr

I’ve been an Avs fan since the 90s so I’m used to bad times but it still sucks all the same. It’ll pick up and it’s just a tough stretch.

  5. Awolfx9

Vancouver defeated us by being a Hockey Franchise that happens to exist. That’s all they needed to do to win tonight, exist.

  6. BiggiePaul

So yeah… Avs created a nice black hole after that collapse. Their mental game is so weak right now it’s a little embarrassing.

    #Proposed Rule Change

Puck hits ref, means automatic faceoff in zone, or a « puck drop. » See « drop ball » in soccer for understanding

  8. Wkerscher

At what point should we be concerned? I know it’s early, nobody gives a shit about presidents trophy, injuries, etc. but it seems like there is something fundamentally wrong with how we’re playing hockey. It’s just been sloppy even occasionally from our top guys which is so uncharacteristic… idk I’m just surprised there hasn’t been any turnaround.

  9. hellohurricane87

The exhaustion on our elite dudes is really showing.

But everyone else is playing like they have no skin in the game. Our bottom pairings and lines are beyond mediocre at this point.

It’s so frustrating to see so little effort or heart. It’s adding up.

2 days of practice to shore things up a bit and we lose within a 3 min period to the same shit that’s bite our ass all year: lapsed d coverage and turnovers.

Fucking hell it’s the worst PK in the league and we go 1/5.

  10. missiongoalie35

    That’s tough.

But, we can’t keep giving up PPG against. That’s been at least one in every game since the Preds game. That shit sucks the life out of the team.

And before anyone says « but the Refs! » you still have to kill those off. Shit sucks but that’s how it be.

This whole « waiting for the cavalry » has to be scrapped. There’s 46 games left. If they win half of them, they probably won’t make it. They need to win closer to that 28-30 range to have a strong foothold to get in.

  11. Ted_R_Lord

Really seeing the effects of having 2/4 of your best defensemen out right now. Top pair is playing unsustainable minutes and its showing in mental mistakes. Then you have to play your normal bottom pair against better lines and that causes them to make more mistakes. Hopefully when Manson gets back that will give the defense a little bit of momentum. Having said all that however, they still need to find a way to win. The boys need to sit down and do some serious soul searching to find their identity right now.

  12. dnelson7

Still time to climb back. Need to get the chemistry/consistency going. We are still a few GP back. This team is still too talented to miss the playoffs, but it needs to start soon

  13. Sure glad I got 8th row seats for that. Right behind the fucking ref Cogs hit with the clearing attempt.

  14. paperback-writers

It worries me that it feels like there is such a lack of leadership, even though we have Nate and Cale. I know Landy is magic, but I hate to see things this off track when we have guys who seem like they should be able to at least partially fill in.

  15. swanskar

I don’t follow stats closely – but was this team winning more games with the AHL players than it is with the guys we were so eager to have back?

  16. Muellersdayofff

What’s crazy to me is the team was playing better and winning games without MacKinnon.

  17. PalsRocksMyWorld

If they keep playing like this then we won’t be seeing them in the playoffs.

  18. DomDomDom18

I’d like to see them split up Nate and Mikko, try to balance the lines a bit, because that’s the only one consistently driving offense right now.

They’re also really missing the size of Gabe and Nuke, it’s such a physically small group of forwards without them, makes it tough to wear teams down on the forecheck.

A long way to go though, just gotta hang in there!

  19. Jonesyrules15

They just aren’t good right now. Not really sure what else you can say

  20. coalsack

Get outta here if y’all are feeling embarrassed. This team is playing hard and doing what they can to keep the season alive.

Yes it’s not the prettiest hockey you ever did see but they’re still in the playoff hunt.

I’m tired of people saying they are embarrassed or coaches need to be fired or the team needs a rebuild.

Go watch the Nuggets or whatever team is winning at the moment if that’s all you care about.

  21. TantuG24

I don’t know how to feel right now.

  22. ihatethedodgers

This team needs Landeskog back in the WORST way. Don’t think it’s a stretch to say that the 3 minute meltdown doesn’t happen tonight if he’s out there.

  23. Hobo_Healy

I can’t wait to have Landy back leading this team. They look lost out there all year, even during the stretches of winning where it looked like Moose and Co just brute forcing wins, which isn’t sustainable.

And Manson back will be nice, might be a good reason to split Toews and Makar up a bit since he can bring some defensive skill back to the lineup so they don’t feel forced to keep them together. I don’t know it’s all just seeing what sticks for now I guess.

We’re not halfway through our season yet at least, so it’s not the end of the world. Just gotta get some confidence back into the guys out there. I still believe in them ❤️

  24. vbcbandr

I disagree with pulling the goalie so early there. We are not playing good enough right now to think about keeping possession of the puck for that long without coughing it up and giving them a free goal. Might as well just stay 5 v 5. Our offensive zone possession has been pretty crappy lately. Pulling the goalie that early is just throwing up your hands and saying, « I hope something good happens. »

Amazing the we basically lost that game in a 3 minute span.

Fact remains, our offensive zone possession has been a wreck and is frustrating to watch.

  25. ViolentGent33

Manson and Byram are a HUGE hit to our D.

Having our second line consist of our third and maybe fourth line guys will do this to a team. Be patient.

  26. GhostRevival

Need ERod and Nuke back ASAP but mostly I think this team needs Bo and Manson back. Our top D pair have been playing insane minutes.

  27. vbcbandr

That was some undisciplined, poor play which was led, yet again, by crappy offensive zone possession and defensive zone giveaways. The exact recipe for a loss, which hass been happening a lot lately.

No Captain to keep our shit together in the middle of games is no bueno. Landy, we need you!

I may skip watching the game against Edmonton. Not fun to watch lately and McDavid/Drai will go off if we keep up with the garbage give aways.

  28. broncosSB50champs

That was a rough way to end after the great start. Gotta be more disciplined and they look kinda gassed.

Canucks fans were pretty chill so at least I had a good time

  29. ZweiBaer

As we keep digging ourselves into a giant hole, there’s going to be a time where we won’t be able to dig ourselves out of it and I’m starting to think that it’s closer than we all anticipated. I still think there’s time, but I’d hate to see this trend to continue only to look back and realize how much we fucked ourselves with the time and opportunities we had especially once everyone comes back healthy. We still have like 45 games left in the season so I hope we start turning things around. Without Landy, the other experience guys need to step up and guide the team. They’ve been here before so we need to start acting like it.

  30. thestage

it would be nice if ANY of the guys who’ve been throw into the revolving door that is our lineup this season had shown to be somewhat reliable NHL players. really just need 1 or 2 guys to be positive players. right now it’s zero. you can throw newhook in there too, who is currently on pace for a blistering 25 point season. right now he’s on the jost trajectory. maybe he turns it around, but it’s clear he ain’t gonna do it this season. this team needs several middle six players before the deadline

  31. yumenohikari

I’m gonna take a breath and try not to scream at the doomers, no matter how headass their takes.

It’s getting bleak. We’re finally getting guys back from injuries, but I feel like the confidence hit is going to take longer to recover from, and of course the top 5 are just getting exhausted. I don’t think this is a lost year … yet.

I’ve heard a few folks wish for Landy back for his leadership. I agree with that. But in the meantime, I feel like what the Avs need most is someone to step up into that role, or maybe just everyone to start picking each other up more, so that we don’t see one bit of bad luck completely mentally wreck everyone like it seemed to do tonight.

That said, we as fans need to calm the fuck down. These are our guys, let’s stick by them.

  32. Awkward_traveler

The Avs schedule after all star break is packed, especially March. It’s a lot of Western conference games too. I have a hunch Landy will come back after the All Star break. There’s a lot of opportunities left this year. Half way through the year, time to get rolling

  33. TantuG24

Right now we are only 2 points out of the 2nd Wild Card spot so it’s not as drastic as it seems. The 9 days off for the All Star Game will help too because it seems like everyone is just exhausted right now. The top guys and D are exhausted and it shows. We really need to be aggressive on trading and if it means giving up Newhook/Girard or someone else to make a playoff push then so be it. We’ve just been sloppy and bland and there’s no passion and effort.

  34. Luna4589

Avs are finding as many ways to lose this year as this did to win last year. Lack of depth scoring is absolutely killing them. This felt like the game to shake off the losses and get back to better habits, especially with Edmonton up next.

Also, it’s very frustrating they can’t seem to shake their habit of Too Many Men penalties.

  35. peptoabysmal

2 regulation wins for the Avs in the last 16 games played. I was getting frustrated by that streak of OT/SO wins, but losing is way worse. Kind of nuts we’ve only closed out a win in regulation twice since December 1st.

15 regulation losses in 37 GP now. Last season, it took 76 games to hit 15 reg losses.

Rough to watch right now, but confident they’ll turn it around. Need someone to step up like Compher did last month, to support the top guys.

  36. newswhore802

I want the assholes talking shit And down voting me the other day when I said we were starting to be in trouble to come out of the woodwork and tell me how they feel now. We’re not even in a playoff spot rn. What the fuck.

  37. vbcbandr

Bednar HAS to reduce Makar’s and Towes’ ice time. Their mistakes keep increasing…anyone can see it. Keeping those two at 23 minutes a night and sharp is better than the risk of having Englund and Hunt playing and extra 5 minutes a night…in my opinion. We are wasting their skill by forcing them to play 30 minutes a night.

  38. BillyNoMates12

Rough stretch no doubt. But I think it can only get better from here. Maybe I’m too optimistic but I think this is the game that wakes the boys up

  39. KendricksMiniVan

Avs are in a tough spot mentally. Constant injuries, giving up leads, Landy’s leadership missing, fatigue, and every team giving their all to measure against the former cup winners…

And an unspoken one I’ve been thinking about – it’s just impossible to have the same hunger for the cup as they did last year. It’s there, but last year they were a ravenous unstoppable force. It’s gotta feel defeating to have difficulty conjuring up that same hunger if you’ve just hit the peak.

  40. Maess420

NHL loves parity. And basically missing our entire second line and second D pair is gonna make it tough. Considering how many key pieces have been out for this long. I will take this record as a win all day. We are still in the payoff mix and guys will be back eventually to make us near whole again. Let’s see where we stand end of January into early February before we panic

  41. ryankhuyton

Lack of team discipline killed the team tonight, with Cogliano in particular acting like an idiot out there and getting a ten minute misconduct.

Lone bright spot was Georgiev, who made like forty saves and was justified in smashing his stick after the third Canucks goal.

I hope Bednar reads the riot act to the team tonight or tomorrow. But I think he should have called a timeout after the Canucks tied it at 2.

  42. XTailsX

Remember boys…all we have to do is get in the playoffs.
