That was an ugly collapse. Created enough offensively to win, but puck management was a major issue in this one. Took too many chances and gave up way too many odd man rushes against a super fast team.

Team’s definitely going to need to review some tape after this one.

  2. lionson76

That was an ugly loss behind a couple of ugly plays on our part, but… Jersey’s 2 goals in the 3rd and even the OT goal were off of lucky bounces they buried. Meanwhile, we had several grade A scoring chances and couldn’t even hit the net. 13 more missed shots for the 2nd highest total in the league. So frustrating.

  3. Main_Paramedic_2822

Does bread’s lack of effort bother anyone else? That guy has one of the highest AAV contracts in the league and he just totally glides around making shitty passes 98% of the time.

  4. Bigdaddyblackdick

Get GG out of my fucking face

  5. jahauser

Reminder, we came back to beat the Canes last game, largely on the back of GG making in game adjustments and out coaching rod the bod. Also reminder, you don’t win every game.

  6. Sjdillon10

Our division has drafted top guys like Hughes, Crosby, and Ovechkin. We of course picked the bust

  7. BitterStatus9

That giveaway by Goodrow. Wow. Just…wow.

  8. laser-lobotomy

Everyone who is screaming to trade Laf are the same people who would be screaming W H Y dID ThIs tRaSH orGaNiZaTIOn TrADE HiM when he puts up 70 points on the team he gets traded to

  9. Tomtosc

Before you give up on Lafreniere remember that there were people wanting to offload Kakko this offseason and he’s turned into one of the rangers better players this year.

  10. Bigdaddyblackdick

Glad none of you will ever be a GM

  11. glacier_bay

I’m just so infuriated that I could light myself on fire. I think it’s better I not post anything. I want to put my head through a damn wall.

  12. Devils have their big players step up.. 2 out of our 3 goals were scored by bottom sixers – and obviously that alone is not a bad thing, but it IS a bad thing when the top sixers aren’t the ones keeping us in the game. I know Kreids got the one goal but I really wanna see more from guys like Mika, Panarin and Tro.. Kakko still looks great but needs that finishing touch.

  13. Kitchen-Award-3845

Bright side, do the rangers still lose in regulation anymore ? They are either beating good teams or taking them into OT and shootouts.

    Sorry trying to be positive

  14. kingfarouk

I’m unwell my disappointment is unmeasurable and my day is ruined, but hey at least we have a fun match up with MIN on Tuesday so that’ll be fun

  15. obvioussponge06

It’s time to accept Laf isn’t going to work out.

He has shown nothing other than a nice goal against Detroit in all three years of his career.

The only option we haven’t yet exhausted is to give him the Caufield treatment and by God I hope we do it.

  16. Humble-Koala-5853

Hughes has been given the opportunity to progress over 4 seasons playing on a shitty NJ team that has yet to reach the playoffs with him on their roster. His points per game has steadily increased and his +/- has as well. NJ rides him like we ride Panarin.

I’m all for questioning how we ended up with the first 1OA since Nail Yakupov to appear to be such a dud. But if you can’t live with risk of Laf getting put out there in OT and failing, then you can’t complain that he isn’t getting better.

IMO he needs to go down to the AHL. Someone posted a video of his highlights from juniors a few days ago. He’s a right-place-right-time player who you can see in the video his has great vision and when he was the same speed as everyone else was able to make impressive plays. But at this level the biggest problem is he’s slow. He needs to figure how to adapt his game to this speed of play.

  17. Ok_Mud_3985

Igor’s a good man for not smashing his stick every night. Probably has to bite his tongue before he says some shit so often with this team

  18. zaddy0094

This game has forced me to break dry January

  19. Envelopen

Our 3 on 3 game needs so much work, we are terrible at shooting on net in these situations i cant imagine where we would be if we converted at least a fraction of our ot losses this season

  20. DrillerKiller87

There’s that ice time for Lafreniere everybody wanted in OT. Worked out awesome

  21. Waverly_pl

Everybody wants to blame Laf like they didn’t blow a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period

  22. Gyroflex

whats funny is this sub treats laf like the worst hockey player of all time and kakko like hes gods gift and they have the same amount of points lmao

  23. yet again gallant with the head scratching line changes.

one of goodrows worst games as a ranger, but tie game late in the 3rd? fuck kravy. we better get goodrow out there with bread and trocheck. accountability is cool, but it seems chytil, lafreniere, krav, and kakko are the only ones who actually get punished and or aren’t trusted in big moments. the veterans can play horrid and they’re still put out there in the bigger moments, and we wonder why our 1st round pick looks entirely fucking lost with 0 confidence. we wonder why it took chytil and kakko 4 fucking years to become close to the players we expected them to be.

im more mad about shit like that than the loss itself.

  24. WheresBubba

Not screaming for Laf to be traded, I’m just tired of everyone giving him the benefit of the doubt. Since last years playoff run he has not show one ounce of promise, at least Kakko has shown he has what it takes to produce he’s just snake bitten. Lafs skating is abysmal and his puck handling is average at best. I’m not sure what you do with him going forward but I’m expecting little to nothing from here on out.

  25. lukelliot

Self inflicted loss. We played well enough to win. Disappointing but it’s nothing to get that upset about imo.

  26. Stealth_Howler

Laf will come good. Too talented. All the folks slamming him today did the same to Kakko and Fil the past few seasons

  27. Jokercard08

Goodrow promoted, Krav and Gaut benched was really something else. Its beyond parody at this point.

Fil shouldn’t be taking draws in over time, that thing the devils did, when one player came out just for the draw and changed, yeah, that’s what we should be doing. but that takes coaching, something we don’t have.

PP1 still together, still taking 2 mins shift. Another game where a PP goal would have been the difference, they’re just « too good »

Laff played well all game, had a great little play to make goal one happen, and we’re crucifying him over that misplay in OT? How about Goodrow’s homerun pass to Hughes? or Trouba giving Hughes an Island? How about Mika’s miss? or Panarins 11 million dollar backhand? laying the blame solely at Laff’s feet isn’t exactly fair.

Laff looked shakey in OT, didn’t know what to do, no confidence. I wonder how that happened to him?

Kakko should be getting OT Time, no argument.

So many stupid mistakes cost us this one.

  28. InsideIngenuity

A lot of mistakes made this game. Frankly, I think Laf is allowed to make a mistake, only way to learn. Would be nice if this team could sink a breakaway shot or hit the net.

  29. electric_liberty

I have Shest and Zib in fantasy hockey. Went from the possibility of a high SV% win with chances for a shutout and a shorthanded point to this….

Hughes is a Ranger killer. We really need a Devil killer. In years past Zibanejad was that guy.

This L stings less than that first one earlier on since we’re generally playing better and are in playoff positioning but man these guys know how to ruin a Saturday vibe.

  30. koishroom

snatching defeat from the jaws of victory yet again…at least that second period was tight tho, fun while it lasted

  31. HumbleBJJ

Laf has done nothing when giving an opportunity. It’s not like he’s lighting it up when he has a chance. It’s also possible for a top pick to not pan out.

Someone mentioned below how he is slow. That’s spot on except he’s extremely slow. That’s a problem and concerning.

  32. the_mair

I just hope all these blown leads don’t make a huge difference in the standing at the end of the year.

Like with a goalie as elite as Shesterkin the Rangers shouldn’t have more blown 2+ goal leads than I can remember off the top of my head.

  33. mattsteeleNJ

Game shouldn’t have even went to OT. But my question is where the fuck is Kakko in OT? The guy is a possession monster and when he has open ice, makes plays. How do you not put him out there in 3 on 3?

  34. Grouchy-Power-806

I thank vally and hank for bringing rational thought to these losses.

Basically saying if we just double points until season end it’s a playoff berth. And remember, to start the season we weren’t very good. Im not worried about the team.

  35. zerooneinfinity

To me the more unforgivable thing laf did tonight was shoot the puck straight into the goalies chest 25ft away in a tie game almost centered on the ice. You’re a number one pick, fucking snipe those.

  36. Zuramaru29

I hate to beat this dead horse but Blais does absolutely nothing on the ice and was too busy scuffling behind the net on the 2nd goal to get back on the D side of the ice.

  37. Lights93_

Gallant has to go. It’s enough.

  38. ItsHeadbangerG

Well, this one sure does sting. I see some people suggesting that Laffy spend some time in the AHL, and I’m starting to agree. He’s not the same player he was in the playoffs last season, and despite him having the same points as Kakko, Kakko looks like a far more complete player. Defense was pretty shit today, not gonna lie. Surprised that they didn’t tie the game up a lot sooner than the third, and yeah Goodrow…oofa. Frustrating to be sure but I’ll take that otl point.

    See you guys on Tuesday.

  39. xXDireLegendXx

I’m not too worried about us. We’ve been playing well lately and should make the playoffs. NJ is insanely fast and I’d be pretty worried getting them in the first round. I’m sure if we all knew we’d be getting at least a point today, not many would have been that angry – the fashion it was lost in hurt. Not just how the scoring went but by who. The devils hit home with Hughes. He’s franchise no doubt. I like Kakko and don’t think Laf is horrendous either but it sucks to see how pale they are in comparison to Hughes

  40. InsideIngenuity

Obviously it sucks they lost, especially the way they did. But anyone else calm about this? This team has only gotten better, I am not worried about them.

  41. fondlemeLeroy

I just don’t understand how scouts didn’t realize that Laf’s severe lack of speed would be a huge problem in the NHL. That’s not like a little flaw. It’s probably the most important skill. It’s just bizarre.

  42. BarmyDevonian

Gauthier has 6 goals now in a 4th line role, he’s hustling like crazy, making things happen every shift, and I’ve even noticed him making plays defensively.

Would it hurt to give him another protracted chance in the top 9? The worst that can happen is it doesn’t work like it didn’t before. FFS, he’s played better than Hunt did last year when he earned his promotion.

The team’s turned things around, but GG’s TOI distribution continues to not feel merit based whatsoever.

  43. will122589

Sucks they lost the game but they still got a point out of it. Blowing a 3rd period lead in the regular season will happen every now and then

  44. PhillyJ739

Hughes is really an all-world, electrifying talent. He is literally the lifeblood of this Devils team and I’m jealous
