  1. I see all walks of people that end up in this way after 'successful' careers but it isn't just one specific mental health issue, most people won't heal because of the shame they have to deal with. PTSD is a horrible disease to deal with…did you not ONCE did he mention PTSD.

  2. Derek Sanderson was homeless Bobby Orr used his own money to get him sober. He now works as a addiction guy for the NHL.

  3. In 2013, Murphy became the first coach and general manager of the GMHL Alliston Coyotes in their inaugural, 2013–14 season. However, he took a leave of absence from the team midway through the playoffs due to an undisclosed allegation which resulted in a Trespass Order issued against him by the Town of New Tecumseth, Ontario. On March 5, 2014, Murphy formally announced his resignation.

In 2017, Murphy was living in Costa Rica. He ended up living on the streets and was eventually deported back to Canada.

On July 6, 2018, Murphy visited the studios of Q104 / KenoraOnline and DrydenNow to talk about his struggles with post-concussion symptoms, as well as his participation in the class action lawsuit with the NHL. He acknowledged that despite earning over $15 million during his NHL career, he was essentially homeless and destitute in Kenora, Ontario. Murphy further elaborated upon his situation in "Finding Murph", a SportsCentre feature that aired in August 2018. The segment's creators, Josh Shiaman, Rick Westhead, Stuart Roberts, Devon Burns and Michael Banani, received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Sports Feature Segment at the 7th Canadian Screen Awards.

In October 2018, the Detroit Free Press reported that Murphy was still homeless in Kenora. The report stated that his situation was caused by multiple concussions resulting in symptoms of frequent headaches, wild mood swings, and personality changes, including becoming an enforcer, starting to take drugs and alcohol. That same month, the CTV News television program W5 produced a segment following two reporters from sister-network The Sports Network, as they looked in on Murphy, who admitted he had been living in shelters and tents around Ontario, where much of his earnings in the NHL had once been donated to various projects.

In March 2019, Murphy completed treatment through the Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS) live-in program at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. In August 2019, USA Today reported Murphy was once again homeless in Kenora and "refusing help". In the summer of 2020, Murphy was living on the streets of Regina, Saskatchewan.

    Straight from his Wikipedia article.

  4. Professional athletes have a surprisingly early best-before date. In their prime they see no evidence of a fast approaching horizon, even though they should know better given the rapid turnover of team rosters. They also don't get a normal childhood, they spend their days on the bus or plane and the elite soon learn that rules don't apply to the best. So it makes them vulnerable to financial advisors, hangers on, and a seductive lifestyle that burns through cash. When you look at lottery winners you see a similar sad story. You gotta beware of what you hope for.

  5. Another Canadians Life Ruined by the Corrupt NHL.They use Canadians to try to make the Euro Ice Soccer Players Look Good at the Expense of Canadians Health. 4 Players Kill themselves in One Short Time from Contiuous Head Injuries trying to make some Euro Ice Soccer Player Look Good.
Wade Belak was Capable of getting 10 times the Points He did get, but the Leafs and Others want Him to Make the Worst Players Ever in Sundin and Kaberle Look Good and He gave Up His Life because of it.

  6. MUCH better production than the last one I saw. I could tell you put some work into this. You are off to a good start and headed in the right direction.

The St. Louis Blues name is pronounced like the English "Lewis" and not the French "loo-ee."

  7. Let me tell you I've never been an athlete but I was a volunteer firefighter for 20 years and seen terrible things which caused me to years later to be diagnosed with PTSD. Struggling with pain and addiction like I do is a cross and needs compassion and understanding….it is truly a struggle!!

  8. I am a life time hockey fan. But this is sickening. The NHL has gone wild after money as the focus. Their recent addition of betting and gambling is disgusting. Gambling ruins life's and families and as bad as drugs.

  9. When he was with Chicago he sat at my table for one of the charity events they had. It was so much fun giving him grief for going to Michigan state since I was a Michigan fan. He gave it right back and we had a lot of laughs over many beers. He stay at my table the entire night and was just one of the boys. Anyway to help him now?

  10. Interesting choice to add the B-roll clips throughout 🤔 what an odd way to present a hockey bio….stock footage of random hockey players unrelated to the story, still shots of people dressed in business suits shaking hands- I think I'd rather of heard this genuinely intriguing story without any images at all instead of the way it was presented.

  11. Important story, but whats with the fake photoshoped thumbnail ?

  12. A good friend of mine played minor hockey from age 14 with Joe. My buddy was even Joe's best man at his wedding. I've put him in contact with Joe's daughter. Joe doesn't want any help from anybody

  13. Important message and I don’t want to minimize it but the edition of stupid stock video clips was ridiculous. Terrible choice. I couldn’t watch 20 seconds of this. Rapid cuts arent necessary to hold peoples attention on important topics just because “it’s visually engaging”. In a way you’re calling your viewers dumb because the rapids cuts means your saying we can’t pay attention watching long clips without cuts

  14. ge lenas? haha. come on. have you ever watched hockey? martin je lina
