I have lots of memories of going to card shops or signings at the Miami Valley Mall in my hometown of Piqua. It’s how my dad and I spent our summer days and weekends. Lots of Cincinnati Reds and Bengals would have tables set up and hang out with fans for a few hours. We would meet with the player, take some pictures with them, take the roll of film to the 1 hour lab in the mall, and get the pictures of us with the players signed. It was a ton of fun. My dad took pictures of the Reds during the Big Red Machine days for the Piqua Daily Call. He wasn’t ever too interested in hockey. Us kids would go to the Dayton Bombers games at the Nutter Center with my mom. Dad’s still into the baseball memorabilia. Baseball never stuck for me, though. I grew up with him complaining about Griffey Jr being hurt for every big game. Anyway he spent the last year either buying signed cards or reaching out to players to get unsigned cards signed. He gifted me this binder with a lot of my favorites this Christmas. It’s an awesome gift, and we spent most of the dinner together talking about the racket we ran at the Piqua Mall. He said “I don’t get hockey but I’m glad you like it.”
