Podcast « Oilers swarm Ducks in buckside win » de The Cult of Hockey
Faisons cela! Le balado Cult of Hockey. Par les fidèles et pour les fidèles, ce soir avec Bruce McCurdy et David Staples. Ils creusent dans la victoire 6-2 d’Edmonton sur les Ducks d’Anaheim.
My numbers for this game: the entire TOI column for the Oilers. It goes to show, when they get a good lead and are fairly confident of holding it, they can rest the big guns and give ice time to those who need it for their development. So not only do good teams that build and hold leads advance in the standings, they benefit in player development and maintaining energy reserves and health, and maybe trying out new things/combos in a real game, all of which should further help them build leads in subsequent games. The rich get richer.
McCleod led forwards with 20:20, while 97, 29, 93, 18 were at no more than 16:34. I count 12 players not on the 1st unit PP who had at least 50 seconds live-fire PP time, including big minutes for Bouch. Desharnais had 15+ minutes in his NHL debut, and among 7 d-men at that.
Based on the 2021-2022 8th place team’s point total (97), the Oilers would need to go at least 21-10-8 or 22-11-6 in their final 39 games to be able to play post-season hockey. That means getting at least a point out of 70 – 75% of their remaining games.
Stopping at 24:10…I am "Baffled" at all this "Great Defensive" talk? What is going on here…The last Podcast was basically a "Defensive Roast" on how "Bad" our Oilers are…Yes?…. We win a game, against one of the worst teams in hockey (That Beat Us A Couple Weeks Ago, In Our Building) and ""Praise"" the Oiler Defence just like that?? No,No,No…Not soo fast. The smart talk for my money was……When Bruce Stated, Should Broberg try those back handed passes against a better team, he might get burnt! Trades were on the Table Tonight…Any "D" man that wanted to remain an Oiler (for now) had to perform…I believe that's the True fact of the situation…Management is itching to trade.
Nice to see a big defenseman who know that he's bigger than everyone else and is willing to use his size to push his opponents around. Liked his demeanor on the ice.
What I liked was the relentlessness of the effort for 60 mins. Fuck running up the score! Until they consolidate this effort, I’m still of the opinion I was before this game. And not just vs San Jose!
Congrats on the OT Goal David. Well this game confirms my now years old theory that the Oilers can beat up on whoever is the worst team in the NHL on most nights. This Kostin guy keeps getting better. My fav player right now on the team after the 2 usual suspects. The new D guy did ok, just ok. imo. But just ok is good for a first game indeed. I'm going to refrain from making any Swarm D gags.
More impressed with David Staples winning performance tonight than the Oilers beating an AHL team~ a team that beat the Oilers on their home ice earlier this season 4-3… way to go David.
Nice win against a bottom feeder team but let’s see some consistency and keep the goals against down with it. Especially against teams that are actually good.

Thought Broberg looked quite good. I think he may be coming into his own.
6ft 7 inches Defensemen was excellent
David you have to be on the left side, continuity. That game was awesome Kostin RNH Janmark Barrie Kulak line is good!

Lets not forget the level of opposition tonight. Good time to try Daharnais esp w San Jose next. I think Vegas after that? Then we’ll see …
Bruce! Much better camera angle / mic placement. The Beard of Knowledge is back in the picture !
