Heart attack at 52. RIP.
Damn RIP
Shit that sucks, rest in peace.
Damn. The Maniwaki Mauler. RIP big guy.
Man, I still remember his first interview in the Bell Centre when he got traded to Montréal.
Back in the day, Musical Theatre was blowing up in the province (and started a worldwide craze IRL). The lead of the biggest show in town, a guy called « Garou », who played Quasimodo in Notre-Dame-de-Paris had just been named the sexiest man in the province by some magazine as his solo career was taking off.
Somehow, the journalist, which I think worked for TVA and was strangely trying to cross-promote the affiliated publication (and Garou who was signed to an affiliated label), asked him if he, the journeyman goon hockey player had any opinion on that recent ranking.
Gino, without missing a beat, simply replied (translated) « Of course! I actually have a message for the man. Watch out Garou! there’s a new sexiest man in Québec now » and he then pointed to himself with his thumb before flashing that beautiful nearly toothless smile. The journalists in studio nearly lost their shit laughing at the answer.
That interview made me a fan of his and from that point on I always referred to him as « the sexiest man in Québec ». I guess his reign ends today. :(.
Adieu, Gino « Sexiest Man in Québec » Odjick.

Fuck. Rip to one tough mofo. Always loved hearing about his close friendship with Pavel Bure.
