Don't know about the D yet bro. Time will tell. At least the goal tending should be better. Your videos are great keep them up!
We just need Campbell to be a little better and more consistent than Mike Smith.
I think our goaltending will be solid. Perhaps Skinner will be good enough to take the reigns next year, who knows?
Our defense will be the focus in training camp. The young guns will be leaned on to shore up things. Hopefully they are up to the task.
I think Kassian is a bigger loss to the lineup than oiler fans think. His personality and toughness often made a difference. That said, he had toned down his game, but I think that was temporary and they will miss that edge. The bottom 6 are not bad. Jesse is a key factor along with Nuge and his shooting percentage.
Skinner wants to move the puck, if he succeeds at being a tiny bit Smith like in that regard we could see good numbers in the win column. I think he will have a low 900 save % and a 2.78gaa. Campbell will do well, period. I think the biggest ? mark is the bench staff. I worry that coaches will set rosters on hierarchy rather than best fit and line combos. For example… Center position should be McD Drai Nuge and Mcleod, but Ryan will be in the 4 spot and Mcleod will be in a off position on line 3 or possibly the 2nd… Which in my opinion will be the some of the mistakes that the bench will take. Derek Ryan is the weaker of the two and in that regard he should be first to be relegated to wing. Last example is the other other Ryan…Murray will be overused and a younger stronger option will be playing in the A.
I think that the oilers D is gonna be the biggest question mark this season on how good it is. Overall I see this team playing way more consistently better, deadline predictions I have is if the oilers are good. enough patty kane comes here or if the D is okay if the price is right mayfield or soucy comes here.
With the coaching I see the oilers doing well this season and I have them going first in pacific and 2nd in the west. Yes I may be drinking too much Oil Aid this off-season
Skinner will be a legit back up and hopefully get 25-30 games. The big question is will Campbell stay healthy and stay focused? They need to fit skinner in regularly to give Campbell rests even when playing well to keep him healthy. If Campbell drops off then skinner may get overwhelmed with fulltime starter.
Like everyboy, I became a McLeod enthusiast as the season wore on–and the idea of him as that organizational home grown-but with him and his agent (rightly)now expecting to that common sense enthusiasm to rasise him a tier business-wise, let me be a bit of a devil's advocate and suggest him as Edmonton's most plausible and perhaps promisng trade-bait in what is, if I am not mistaken, his contract year.
I am a believer-
but a hockey devil might advocate something like the notion of him still being a bit inflated–in terms of sustained and direct attainment even as the blue-chipper there is evidence to surmise he may be –its still not quite a bona-fid on his resume–let alone with that notion I share which is that he is at least that-with potential next-level upside. But potential upside is one of those constant legends more true in the start than the end by far in the sports,.Now don't get me wrong-
I do still buy that narrative and so dearly love thinking of him as an Edmonton's own kind of special–like maybe a poor mans Edmonton's own named Connor McDavid–a Connor Jr there in the back line–but if I'm thinking strategically about striking while the iron is hot and winning today–this damn year and not the next one-I still might have think that someone else is buying the narrative– someone looking for that elusive final ingredient already–or a young phenom likely to have his shine more dimmed by organizational morass rather than ny significant lack of proven "upside" to his talent and skills,So that's my diablolical view: because I believe and we all do in Mcleod as a perfect Oiler in rough maybe now is the time to strike for some real high-class 24 carat already well known to the market–say, that kind of goalie known to be good enough to win a cup and which don't grow on trees.
Meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing if Campbell can allay my lingering concerns there and make that part of the deal moot–leaving the Oilers to trade for high octane defense (whomever they part with) in their later lines next. Let's see ifCampbell cam make a heroic bid-and Mcleod can become a real Oilers legend as he does.
