  1. Wings fan here, and when I saw this goal I immediately thought of the disallowed goal against JT. This was a planned set pick and it was not called. I wasn’t a fan of the way this game was officiated, started off with a goalie interference, that was challenged and lost, another goal on the ensuing PP, then this pick and roll not called and your down 3-0 on the road and the games already over. The Wings did crawl back into it after being down 5-0 to make it 5-3 before the EN.

I thought the JT pick in the playoffs wasn’t planned, just a I’m not going to try and get out of your way and you ran into me that’s not my fault move but was called anyways. This one was a planned and rehearsed play.

  2. I was at the Wings-Avs game. It was amazing.

The reason they didn't call that on Tampa is because the refs love Tampa AND there is a lack of consistency, but that was the correct call.

  3. It looked like the Detroit player was going to hit the Avalanche puck carrier, but after the pass he changed his mind and tried to side step the Avalanche player who in return hit the Detroit player, seeing that the Detroit was trying to go around the Avalanche player and got hit the ref should’ve called interference. No Goal.

  4. There is no inconsistency here. The Toronto player picked off the defender, in the Detroit game, the defender was playing the man with the puck, who shoveled it to his teammate just before contact. If you don't understand this, Johnny, you have no clue,

  5. As a Leaf fan it looked like the ref got the right call both times.
57 of Detroit skated into the Colorado player who couldn't get out of the way, whereas in the Leaf game #3 of the Leafs deliberately went to take take #71 of Tampa out of the play.
The Detroit player skated into the opposition, if any penalty should be called it would have been against Detroit.
The Leaf player got the penalty he deserved.
#71 of Tampa did not have the puck.

  6. there is a clear difference, the player in the the avalanche game "interfered" just after making a pass. he just continues his movement forward. a cheeky play, sure, but the leafs clip the leafs player tad interfered did so without being directly involved with the play. so there is your mystery. is the nhl officiating consistent? of course not. but in this specific scenario it makes sense.

  7. Would it not be called interference because he passed the Puck behind him he didn't lose control of the puck he passed it

  8. The difference is – where is the centre of the body moving during the “pick” contact! The Leaf pick was – torso to torso contact. I am a Leaf fan – but you can’t skate with your body to aim directly at the opposing player changing a pick into inference. Whereas, McKinnon skated in the general direction – but his “pick” was not turned into interference because his torso missed the opposing player & so interference was not called. The other factor here is – playoff officiating allows more contact but the Leafs are not really coached well – for when officiating changes in the playoffs. Like Leaf fans, I feel Leaf Executives & coaches are too honest and they want rules called according to the rule book. As is, the Leafs make more money compared USA teams and the more Teams like Vegas & Tampa doing well – helps TV and gambling profits and other revenues from NHL. So Leafs just don’t get calls & some details can be made up to explain why!

  9. I'm sorry, what? How are these plays even being compared??

McKinnon was the puck carrier, dropped a pass and then continued on the exact same line he was already on. He didn't change his line to get in the way, their lines just happened to converge inadvertently after the defenseman skated down the wall. Had the D-man stayed at the point and McKinnon stayed on his line there wouldn't have been any contact.

The Toronto player never had the puck and clearly interfered with the defending player chasing down Tavares. The defenseman clearly had his line established (Right behind Tavares) which the Toronto player inserted himself into which allowed Tavares to turn and shoot instead of being hounded by a defenseman on his back.

I think the moral of the story here is if you want intelligent hockey discussion, don't look to twitter…

  10. The ref won’t call something if they don’t see it…. All refs are different…

  11. The league couldn't care if Toronto wins or not. They are already a cash cow for them win or lose.

  12. There’s been a lot of inconsistency this year, hasn’t been good

  13. These are two entirely different situations. A gent already explained why in the comments…but you can't compare these two situations. A player entirely out of the play, never having had possession of the puck is what makes this difference. It's your opinion..not consistency.

  14. This type of analysis I'm not a fan of. I agree there needs to be consistency, and this should have been interference. However I'm not a fan of the Monday morning quarterbacking. There are differences between the two examples and this game is so fast we cant expect the officials to catch everything, yet alone different officials making consistent calls 6 months apart from each other. Its just not realistic. Personally, I think the NHL should instruct officials to only call blatant penalties and not overturn goals unless there is a clear and indisputable reason to do so. While that presents a host of other issues that may arise, it will at least improve consistency.

  15. nate had the puck before. and it wasnt much after he had that he ran into the detroit player. nothing to be mad about . leafs whining..

  16. Like almost everything in hockey.. It has nothing to do with the Leafs. So the suggestion that this is somehow against the Leafs is a bit of a joke. This can get addressed at the GMs meeting where they can work on clarifying the rule.

  17. Leaf fans cant talk shit when the game with the Devils, the Devils got 3 goals disallowed from them which costed them the game.

  18. Its cuz the leafs 1 was obvious and stupid (its the leafs man shit). Who cares if a bunch about leaf fans are upset.

  19. So Mac should quickly turn away instead of skating straight? He can take the hit if there was one. Good play and good call. The leafs player clearly interfered with the play and he didn't even have the puck.

  20. It seems the league needs to create yet another rule to cut this out of the game and call it something else cause interference is inconsistent of a penalty to call on its own these days….2 minutes for..picking?..lol I mean when you've created a faster game like a European game with north American style with north American sized rink those two playing styles are guna clash no matter what

  21. Both are interference. Neither goal should count however Leaf fans need to check the privilege and get with reality here as they have been rewarded it seems an unlimited number of times this season with so many freebies where officials either don't see a clear offence they commit that do at times generate goals or make fantasy calls to null goals against the Leafs. Refs against the Leafs. That is just laughable.

  22. Colarado does lots of 'subtle' pick maneuvers like they are playing basket ball. Leafs got ripped off on that no call vs TB

  23. I don’t think the officials are against the Leafs. However, they do let some teams and players like the Av’s and Makar/Mickinon away with a lot of stuff.

  24. The Leafs interference was not as clear as MacKinnon's…. That is clear. Holl looked like he didn't know where to go, and got a penalty for it. Crap call…

  25. Leaf fans should just be absolutely fuming for being Leaf fans! I smell another first round playoff exit!! GIGGITY!

  26. easy one. in the maple game the player caused interferrence because he never had the puck. makar having the puck less tha a second earlier gives him right to hit the coming player (and the right to the coming player to hit him)
    …please…

  27. It's about country status if it's to us team playing they win they get all the right calls if it's a Canadian team plan they got the wrong calls sore losers were always winning World Juniors and the Olympics gold medals Oh Canada go they don't want us to have the Stanley Cup t00

  28. That’s easy: because it’s this year and a different game and set of refs. How many “kicked goals” were allowed in the regular season of 2021-22 and yet during the Calgary v EDM series (same year/season) Colemans goal was ruled a kick. So not even between regular and post season is it called the same.

But sure let’s get every call EXACTLY right and take 10 minutes to review it. They can review, goals, offsides, delay of game but penalties… eh no that’s too far.

  29. Hum…. No controversy here! Mckenon had the puck the other guy came for him. The guy from the leaf never had the puck. that's the difference.
