> Dumba says Wild general manager Bill Guerin has been honest with both him and his agents that he could be traded in advance of the deadline. Dumba said “it’s what I’d expect from a man like him. He’s always good to me, always honest.”
>Guerin, by phone from the team’s scouting meetings in Florida, said, “It’s the least I can do. I have gained a lot of respect for Matt since I’ve come to Minnesota. I like Matt. He’s a good guy. He’s a good person. … It’s a tough business.”
> Dumba, 28, whose 562 games rank seventh in Wild history, said he’s trying to take advantage of every waking moment with the teammates he loves. This weekend, when the Wild begin their father/mentor-son trip in South Florida, Dumba has invited his 24-year-old brother, Kyle, a former junior hockey goalie who came on one of these trips when he was 18.
You know, part of me feels sad for Dumba. He has done a lot for the community and the team off ice. He loves it here. Grew up watching him, he grew up with the Wild. Definitely think it’s a good idea to move him before he’s a free agent this summer but some part of me is bummed. Wish it would’ve worked out better for him.
I say we ride it out with him. One more go at it together. For old times’ sake.
