Interesting that Barrie’s Market value is set to 7.7

  2. Don’t know what that the time frame on this is but I’d like to know why Murray is there and not Broberg or Niemelainen. Both have played significantly more games than him.

Or maybe they do and OP just posted these 6, idk

  3. spagboltoast

Murray hasnt played in months but i guess lets add him.

  4. spagboltoast

We’re under paying basically all of our forwards and hyman is worth 13m according to this article lol

  5. SKGood64

I like Barrie, but he would get destroyed if he had to play the role Darnell does on the top pair.

  6. BetterTreat

Ceci at 1.3 sounds about right to me.

  7. All these analytics fail to take into account of quality of competition.

  8. thee_artful_dodger

What would the market value be for a guy like Vinny ‘The UNDEFEATED Answer’ Desharnais…?

  9. Extension-System-974

What a garbage article. Justify things with analytics all you want and hate on Darnell nurse all you want. But the truth is if you took nurse off this team we’d be worse than if you removed Barrie. The guy plays 23 minutes a night, tough minutes. Yes, he makes mistakes, but he also has never had a true top pairing partner in his whole career. Without him our d core would be historically bad. Analytics don’t tell the story.

  10. No_Season1716

Looks legit to me. Barrie probably too high but everyone else is fine.

  11. daveybuoy

That’s a very interesting set of stats.

If Murray’s value is league minimum ($750k), how is he a -$1.9M if he’s only making $50K more than the minimum? Is it because he is even more of a liability than league-minimum players? If so (and I can certainly agree with that), how the heck did they come up with a value to relate to the negative impact he has on the roster?

    Is this written by DNB?

  13. ethanolrs

Can anyone post the score cards for our forwards?

I will continue to bang this drum – moving Ceci and bringing in a legit #2 is our best chance at a cup this year.

    Bouchard is a better.

Barrie (when NOT tasked with facing elites) is better and makes our PP better

Ceci is realistically an average 4/5 guy and would be an excellent 5/6 guy – but he is being used in a #2 role.

Ceci is not a good PK guy and gets caved vs elites. We need a #2 guy that HELPS Nurse and doesn’t force Nurse to feel like he has to do it all by himself.

  15. commazero

The picture of Ceci reminds me of Ben Affleck

  16. Plucault

Interesting article and information. Like any analytics this is just one data producing a result filtered through weightings based on people using their own biases and eye tests.

  17. Machelscott

Yeah I think that’s all the Athletic I can take, unsub

  18. ceebottz

Barring a few injuries on the back end there’s a pretty good chance we won’t ever see Murray in an Oilers jersey again.

Odd choice to include him and not Nemo or Broberg…Vinny has been way better than Murray ffs but with 5 or 6 games under his belt I can see it being tough to make a card for him.

  19. JessePuljujarviHater

So Murray is so bad he should be paying to play in the NHL

  20. BreakerOf_Chains

Yeah I really only agree with overpaying nurse. But we had too

I don’t know the values seem pretty good here.

We all know Nuge and Hyman are underpaid studs. 9.1M value for Nuge is reasonable considering his production this year. 13M seems like a lot for Hyman but he’s a super stud.

We all thought Foegele was overpaid by a bit, I think the 2.3M valuation is right, maybe I would have put him lower at 2M but maybe his recent performance improved that.

We all know Nurse is overpaid. I always pegged him as a 2M overpay so worth about 7M, considering he’s been a mixed bag this year with a bit more bad than good, I could see an evaluation of 6.1M.

Barrie is definately underpaid. They nailed that.

Ceci isn’t as good this year and doesn’t produce much. I think his valuation is low but they are probably right in that he’s overpaid.

  22. tightcorners

Man compared to last year Ceci has had a bad year.

    21-22 season he had: 5G, 23A
    This season: 1G, 6A

Surprised nobody is talking about him, maybe because Nurse has been even worse..

  23. quickboop

This chart has Nurse’s GSVA in 21-22 at 2.0. That was the projected GSVA last season, but the actual was 1.6. Funnily enough his projected for this year is 1.6.

Nurse’s market value has be $6.2m in three straight player cards going back to April last season. That seems a little weird doesn’t it? You’d think there’d be at least a little change given the difference in some of the ratings.

I dunno… Seems like there might be some error in this.

  24. YorkeZimmer

This is kind of stupid and clearly way too heavily weighted on points. Bouchard isn’t worth only 1mill less than nurse, and definitely not 2.5 and 4 mill more than kulak and ceci.

We are getting WAY more than our money’s worth out of ceci. And any model that suggests otherwise is clearly broken.
