Kilngberg has to despise his former agent. I know the Ducks are bad, but goddamn he could’ve gotten the bag if he took Dallas’ offer…

Chiarot better than Karlsson confirmed, haters stay mad

This is basically what I expected after watching most games this season. Seider and Chiarot are both playing better after being split up and Chiarot isn’t nearly as bad as fans think he is. There are a number of big name defenseman like Hedman (8 years, $63M) and Letang (6 years, $37M) who are far below Chiarot (4 years, $19M).

Ok firstly this is projecting the rest of the season based on 5v5 numbers up to this point right? I’m confused as to the point of projections without a secondary graph to show how the numbers lineup through the half season we’ve played.

Secondly I thought hockey WAR was a weird stat that wasn’t formulated well and that’s why so many people use possession numbers instead of war. Its been a minute since I looked into hockey advanced stats so I might be like 8 years out of the loop.

Thirdly, and this isn’t an attack on OP for posting, but advanced stats in a vacuum feel so misleading. 5v5 WAR without other stats to either give context or reinforce feels like we’re hunting for reasons to continue to love mo and hate the shit out of Chariots contract. Mo hasn’t been brilliant in his sophomore year and Chariot has dragged down defensive partners but my eyes don’t say that either one of them belong here. I honestly was expecting to see Hronek with how he played the first 6 weeks of the season
Maybe its the specifity of 20+ minutes? I dunno this chart feels weird to look at.

OP I’d love a link on where you got this from!

I’m shocked Hedman and Reilly are that bad defensively. Huh.

Imagine if we had some kind of « defensive contribution » advanced stat that was a cumulative score from things like blocked shots, takeaways, breakout passes, and disrupted passes and all of the other little plays defensemen make throughout a game.

Karlson having negative defensive WAR but in the discussion for Norris shows how dumb the award has gotten. Are there two separate awards for best defensive defenseman and best offensive defenseman?
