It has always been ownership and management.
I believe it was the Canucks owner who hired Bruce and not Benning, as Benning and Green were fired at the same time. So Bruce was not part of the Jim Benning Ltd group. Bruce was also hired one week prior to Jim Rutherford.
I would say this season is on owner, rutherford and allvin. Boudreau and the players was punched before the season started.
The worst ownership in the league. A former East Vancouver Slumlord
Ownership 1st mgnt 2nd. I think Bruce and the Players would have a better record if Big Mouth Rutherford and his Puppet Alvin didn't Criticize Bruce before the season and during the year. The Players arent happy and I think Petey wont resign. Bo.must be Happy to.leave. Tirefire.
I don't really have my finger on the pulse but didn't Boudreau kind of rescue their season last year? Almost made the playoffs? I think it's ownership and management. I get that JT Miller had a career season last year, and that he's still on pace for a good season offensively, but I think inking Miller long term, at 31 years old, and behaving the way he is, and not being able to make a deal with Horvat, has to have an effect on the locker room. One of your leaders is leaving because ownership is cheap and sending a message they believe in your other leader more, who is lazy on the backcheck and yells at his teammates. This is ownership/management and locker room culture combined
bruce was given a lousy roster. the problem is, things got worse instead of better. bruce's ideal situation is a strong talented team that is a contender. he is definitely a player's coach. when tocchett was coaching arizona, he knocked OEL down during a practice. he will bring something bruce couldn't.
To quote the Hockey Guy "it's ineptitude personified"
Bruce didn't sign JT, Mikheyev and Myers and then trade for OEL. Regular teams are overpaying about 7-8M total on individual player contracts, Vancouver is overpaying a lot more than that.
The Canucks franchise is a sick joke….the ONLY way this team will get better is if their crazy owner sells it to someone who's more hands off and more bottom line.
Rick is gona regret going to Vancouver
We're kicking our ass!!!
What a mess. The owner, president, GM and former coach are partly responsible as are many of the players. Getting out of this mess will be a challenge as Canuck fans have little patience.
Sell the team Aquilini!!!
I think it's simple. He had a contract and they needed to let him go by the book as to avoid legal issues. They probably had to have a level of failure on the books to justify his termination on paper. Also they let him go just before the all-star break to obviously give the new staff a long amount of time to practice with the guys and set up shop before the last stretch of the year.
Vancouver Canucks have more playoff series wins in the past 5 years than the Leafs
We’ll welcome Bruce back to Hershey and he can coach his Jr. Hockey team and enjoy hockey and life again
Boudreau was personally hired by Aquilini after he fired Benning and Green. Later he hired Rutherford. Ownership is to blame for this whole debacle.
Appreciate you guys covering the story. But as a Canuck fan lifer, we loved Bruce because he found a way to make the current team roster work last year. At the end of the year, we expected management to acknowledge that. Instead in post season interviews, management criticized the team and the coach. That was when the fans went "What the hell?". Bruce deserved a pat on the back not a kick in the ass!
The constant criticism became top of mind for the coaches, players and the fans. Instead of pushing the offense, it constant thoughts of defense and structure. It ruined what they had last year and never got it back.
Not saying the roster doesn't need work, but Bruce got the most out of them.
Guys you shouldn't talk about betting the kids that are watching you will be screw up by those comments 🤣 🙄
Not Bruce the man was the problem , but the system he plays by was the problem AND the fact Canucks can't trade up in talent because they over pay so-so players ( Horvat ) 5.5 million for eight years and he has only produced second line numbers until this ( what a coincidence ) his contract year
Jim Rutherford is a fool.
Obviously beta males are too sensitive .Boudreau was awful this year unless you didn't watch any games then he was a badly treated great coach who was unjustly and cruelly fired.Anyway the Canucks will improve and boudreau will go back to media drivel
He wasn't the problem. But he was never the coach for a young team that lacked structure.
The Canucks did not even make a move in the summer for any kind of defensive help. Boudreau knew he was a lame duck when Rutherford said publicly the team he coached had no structure and it did not matter if the defense is shitty or not. Basically, Boudreau was doomed to fail when the management did not change up the defense. Management was obviously leaving Boudreau out in the cold and then having their own Penguin associate in to take over as soon as Canucks are out of the playoff chase. The management needs an excuse and now they have their picked coach! Simple as that,
Bruce had a role to play in the situation, no doubt…but had no role to play in the way management handled the situation…from the very get go it was JR's goal to get rid of BB…but couldnt get rid of him because of how well they played…and it was very clear after they wanted to get rid of BB
Coaching is not the issue. The team is just not good. The defence is particularly bad.
More inept then the leafs first round history.
They wouldn't buy out Boudreau in the summer, what makes anyone think Aquilini will approve any player buyouts after this season?
Not gonna happen.
VC will WAIT until either contracts expire… Or they sweeten a deal enough to trade a contract away to a team that WILL buy the contract out, and KEEP VCs sweet assets.
There are lots of owners and GMs who will gladly trade money for players.
Whereas VC… well, if it wasn't against the rules… Aquilini would trade ANY player for cash.
20 mill for Petie? DONE.
🤣
How can a guy who was a terrible goalie in his time be so arrogant?
Toronto fan covering Vancouver Canucks stuff.🤔🤔🤔… must be a secret fan
Benning didn't hire Boudreau, aqualuni did after he fired green and Benning
Yes , now that he’s gone get ready and clean a spot for the Cup
Canucks have been over rated for years
Boudreau wanted to play a run-and-gun game, but unfortunately the defence is too slow(except for Hughes). I hope with Tochett we can tank our way to drafting Bedard…

Great Memory, Jesse. You're Right. Bruce Boudreau Went And Exercised His Option For This Season. That's Why Rutherford Wanted Him Out As Coach, But, He/Bruce Boudreau Was Still There. WOW! Good Memory
