Advanced stats get people so excited. Walman just had one of his roughest games last night. He has 8 points in 30 games. Yeah, he's been pretty good. I like having a defenseman who can make moves at the blue line. But when I hear "he's playing better than his results", it just feels like an attempt to use numbers to justify the fact that you just like the player.
You don't have to do that. I like the way Chiarot plays. I've been trashed for it, because all the numbers are bad. But the guy is out there every night, eating up 20 minutes, blocking shots and hitting hard, he makes good crisp passes, and has enough offensive ability to make things happen at least a couple times a game. There's no advanced stat that can quantify why you should like a player, just say what you like about his game and don't feel like you need to justify it with their "5 on 5 value of expected goals above replacement per 60" or whatever the hell.
With how many defensive prospects we have, I wouldn't mind trading him for a good asset.
Sign. Great underlying numbers…but most importantly, plays great with Seider. We need peak Seider…whatever helps that happen.
Resign Walman 2-3yr deal. Hes good with Sieder, has a great move to the inside to open up a good slap shot or a cross ice back side winger. He also plays with alot of passion which is contagious( The Griddy) for example. Just a side note, why if Matta and Hronek were so good to be in the top 10 d-man parring in the NHL does Lalonde put Matta on the 3rd line? I dont care if Churoit, cant spell his name, is being paid more just to try and justify his paycheck. Where trying to win. We obviously figured out the top 2 d-line so far. Lalonde sometimes with his lines makes me scratch my head. Anyway love the show

I think he understands the opportunity he has here and is likely to take a short term deal. I don't know why we wouldn't offer it. We probably aren't bringing up all the D prospects next year.
Chiarot locked up, Edvinsson in NHL soon, Wallinder is going to be an NHLer, Albert Johansson and others in GR plus Shai Buium. Trade him if you can get at least a 2nd rounder or use him in a package deal. Walman, Zadina, Sundqvist Suter and Nedelkojic at half salary retained, potentially Bertuzzi or Larkin. Team has a ton of trade chips.
Yzerman has been following walmans career and was happy to get him. Sounds like a piece that you sign.
