I don’t think the owner is going to let them have a rebuild even if Rutherford could do that. Obviously the cap prevents a lot of trades, but Aquilini I think still believes with a move or 2, they could be a playoff team and right now that’s what he wants, because of the extra money. It’s not about building a long term winner and cup contender. It’s about being a playoff team ASAP.
Kuz at $5.5mil/season is perfectly fine, but the Canucks are a bottom team, and for that reason the signing doesn't make sense. Dealing Horvat for a king's ransom makes sense, but at least another move needs to be made to free up cap space…
