I wish ESPN would just buy up the regional rights too so I can just watch everything on the ESPN app

Getting blocked by paywall. Can anyone link or post?

I don’t want them to end up with Amazon or Apple+. Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire.

I would estimate the Preds’ TV deal is worth about $20 mil a year to the team, which is on the low end. For them and the other 11 clubs about to start missing their payments, this is a big deal.

There is no other cable regional sports entity in place to take over broadcasting all these games. There is no streaming service with the current capability to broadcast roughly 1000 more live events a year. The NHL is not currently a television production or distribution company.

No doubt something could be done about it but it will almost certainly affect hockey related revenues and therefore the salary cap.
