Je revenais au commerce de Chiarot et j’étais curieux de savoir qui était le choix de 4e tour. Y a-t-il une raison pour laquelle personne ne parle de lui ? Les statistiques sont excellentes !

He’s 5’10. We are already over compliment on small but highly skilled forwards.

It is so hard to break into the NHL. This kind of player reminds me Cam Hillis or Allan McShane. The real test is when they go out of the OHL. Will he be able to produce at the next level? He is still a project in my opinion.

Stats are similar to Beck and way better than Mesar.

So many guys have stats like these in their D+1 year, just so many. Add to that that stats aren’t everything, especially in Junior hockey.
That aside, probably the main reason he isn’t talked about is that he wasn’t a high pick, and has no identifiably special aspect to his game, so he’s not on the fan-base’s radar really.

So I’m from Owen Sound originally and know quite a bit about Guindon. He’s a good player, and good value for his pick, but there’s no guarantee it will translate to the NHL – primarily size, role, and teammates.
He’s smaller (170 pounds) for a pro, which you can often get away with more in the CHL that you can’t in the NHL/AHL.
He sees the game really well and I’ve found he benefits from the extra time you have in the CHL. This is super common for offensive players in the CHL, and there are countless examples of guys putting up big numbers to never make the pros.
Lastly, he benefits a lot from playing with Colby Barlow. Barlow is going to be a 1st round pick this year, potentially top 15. Barlow’s strength is as a shooter, so Guindon can rack up points quickly. This isn’t his fault, but it would help explain the high number of assists to an extent.
I’m always excited about Attack players in the system, and would love if Guindon works out. But to this point, he’s shown he is a great CHL player who still has a lot of question marks and is still a long shot to translate.

Stats are no everything they also need translatable skills. We had many players over the years who were great in the CHL and turned out to be fringe AHLers. The real test will be when they start playing in the AHL or look great during pre-season/dev camp.
Theirs a reason why you hear more about other prospects
Mesar: 1st pick, look good during pre-season but not the best stats in the OHL (needs adjustment tho, since he was playing in EU)
Beck: He was our best Forward prospect in the pre season, and pretty much a 1st round pick.
Hutson: Currently one of the best D (in term of points) in the NCAA and some insane advance stats.
Roy & Kidney: Top of the Q in term of points and Roy had great WJC too.
Farrell: Fantastic point production and got hyped by Caufield.
Everyone else is under the radar for now since they haven’t done better than these guys. If they are not at the top of the league, drafted high and had great pre season showing, we tend to forget about them. Theirs a reason why they got drafted lower. They might be lacking in more areas, like speed, size, physicality, puck handling, hockey IQ, etc.

I’ve coached him in some camps and coached vs him in his midget AAA year. His stats were impressive for his rookie year. IIRC he was top 10 in stats and goals vs some 17-18 yo as a 15-16 yo. Good for him to get recognition!

He looks like Cole, Dach, and Monahan combined

He eventually made the show in my franchise mode

So quite honestly, I think it’s 2 reasons.
1) Our pool is so garsh darn deep right now. 5 years ago he’d have been a lot bigger of a fish in it. Now he’s like our 24th best prospect (give or take a dozen) and so he’s less shiny.
2) Habs prospect coverage isn’t what it was in years past. HabsEyesOnThePrize really did drive a lot of attention to our future (potential) stars. Without the guys there that did the work they did, we wouldn’t have known nearly as much about our young guys as we would’ve hoped to.
