Biased Oilers Fan here…. Loved it when Ayers got his moment. Even though this wasn't close to the same level. Amazing and heart warming to see the Oilers give this guy a cool moment. Some guys play at a high level with out ever making it to the big leagues. Loved how the Oilers organization – sprecifically McDavid and Woodcroft were in on this. The Calgary Flames could defintely learn something here especially when Sutter trashed his rookie player , after his first game for no reason at all.

He wasn’t the EBUG. He was the Oilers backup signed to an amateur contract earlier in the day. EBUGs are available to either team and don’t sit on the bench in full gear.

This is super cool, but I thought you weren't allowed to put in the EBUG unless both of your dressed goalies got injured? Didn't this exact scenario happen once, where a team tried to put in the EBUG for the last like 30 seconds of the game but the officials didn't allow it because they still had a dressed goalie?

Did Campbell fake an injury or something? I remember a time the Flyers tried to do this with a kid who played club hockey at Temple and they made him go back to the bench because the goalie wasn't hurt.

I thought there was a rule stating that a EBUG was not allowed to play as long as the starting goaltender was still able to play. If memory serves me, another NHL team attempted to play their EBUG and were denied it by the officials since the starter was still on the bench.
