Faits saillants du sixième match décisif de la finale de la Coupe Stanley de 1989. Canadiens de Montréal vs Flames de Calgary. Les flammes remportent la Coupe.
as a die hard Nucks fan, this video makes me jealous as fuck. Look forward to the Van/Cgy rivalry to get heated up again though, Flames with all that young talent and Vancouver with quite a bit of young talent coming up the ranks. Sedins are old but I think when Boeser, Demko and the rest of our prospects develop we will get to see super exciting hockey games between Van and Cgy. GO CANADA GO!
Only time the Canadiens lost the final at the Forum. The only other time a team other than the Canadiens won the final at the Forum was in 1928 when the Rangers beat the Maroons.
"Here comes the siren; and here come the Flames!" That's the perfect way to say that the Flames are the Stanley Cup champions. Because, the siren could be thought of as the siren of a fire truck.
That Flames team in the late 80's and early 80's including the 1989 Championship team is so underrated. Here in the US, that team got almost no media mention at all. Did not help in this period, this Cup Final was no where to be found on then Big 3 networks i.e CBS, NBC or ABC or even on then 2nd tier networks and national sports channels such as then brand new Fox Network or ESPN. The Habs and Oilers teams of this era were internationally known and even got some American sports media attention. Too bad back then and even worst now, this very good '89 Flames team is basically forgotten at least here in the US as a Stanley Cup Winner.
The teams that won the Stanley Cup since I was born September 2 1988

A truly once in a lifetime year for Lanny McDonald or any player for that matter , as he got his 1000th point , his 500th goal , scored the winning goal in the Stanley Cup final and a Stanley Cup championship all in one year …. then retired from professional hockey …..truly a fairy tale ending to a brilliant playing career …. ….. and he was official closer at the Calgary Stampede in July of 1989 and I met him and got a sweat shirt signed by him …………..
Joe Mullen – HOF Doug Gilmour – HOF Joe Nieuwendyk – HOF Al MacInnis – HOF Lanny MacDonald – HOF Gary Roberts – Should be in the HOF Joel Otto – Should be in the HOF Theo Fleury – Should be in the HOF Stu Grimson Rob Ramage Mike Vernon – Should be in the HOF
If they kept that team together they coulda been a dynasty.
This was re-match, their Championship Series duel in 1985-1986 N.H.L. season with Canadiens winning that series in 5 games. Flames returned 🔥 favor 3 seasons later by beating Habs in 6 games/clinching Series in Mtl., Que.-Canada's Forum marking only time that Canadiens' opposition hoisted hockey's 🏒 holy grail, late British-born Lord Arthur Stanley's cup in front, Habs' partisans in that storied arena. Flame D Al MacInnis captured M.V.P. honors for 1988-1989 season's Stanley Cup Playoffs/was Smythe Trophy recipient

🚨🔥GO FLAMES GO🔥🚨
1989 was the golden year for the Calgary flames. We almost made it to a second cup in 2004 but maybe one day we can do it this year
Yea
Flames rule
We should have taken it in 2004…
That's 1, 4 to go.
So happy for the Flames! Great game, gotta love Gilmour and Vernon!!
Woo!!! Let's go Flames🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Let's make this happen again only lets let Gio hold the cup!!!!🔥🔥🔥
Incredible Flames team! Vernon was amazing for us all year in 1989. He needs to be in the Hall.
Im a montreal fan but if the two team are in the finls montreal would want revang and GO HABS GO
2004 flames were a better team. Kipper in his prime was a way better goaltender than Vernon was in my opinion.

So nice before buttman took over the NHL

Best Stanley cup ever
What an epic end of career for Lannny McDonald.
The league was so biased in favor of the Habs back in the day
Man 1989 Flames were unbelievably stacked

I will never forget this. 🔥
Flames first and only cup and last time 2 Canadian based teams faced off in the finals
Recorded From February 1st 2013
Hated to see my Habs lose, but happy for Lanny. Good times. All Canadian final.
