  1. leave Raymond alone lol everybody loves raymond. dont share trash articles. its his 2nd season chill lol

  2. A lot of players have a sophomore slump, so this isn't really a big deal

  3. LMFAO Raymond a liability the kid is 20 years old, And still is on pace to tie his 57 point rookie season a year ago, Not sure what this guy is talking about.

  4. Lafreniere 74 points in 183 games
Raymond 89 points in 130 games
More points 53 less games…. almost a whole season.

  5. Damn man even Yzerman had to work on his defensive game in his early career… making videos about twitter troll posts ><

  6. Yzerman didnt tweak his game to get better defensively until well into his career. Lucas is still establishing himself. He has the talent and the smarts, they'll get him there.

  7. I feel like other teams best lines are licking their chops at the prospect of playin us right now thinking WE ARE "getting one back" or "we can't loose to them" so we are always facing teams at their most focused and try hard form and their either bigger or more mature… its like being born the runt its the beatings you take and everyone facing you with the utmost courage. but weathering that long enough terns you into a little napolien mind set and the hard knocks make you bullet proof, and the having always had to go doubble just to survive makes you a force, and the never getting any respect makes you invincable, and you finnaly catch up Nobody wants No smoke and you have that extra gear that allows you summon the adreniline to become a Tyrant at will.

  8. The center always has more defensive responsibilities than a winger. They’re looking at the wrong guy!

  9. I remember Lalonde made a comment last week about Larkin/Bert/Raymond together becomes like the wild west. They also play against the other teams top lines too. Defensively the whole team needs to improve but the biggest step forward will be gained by the forward group playing responsible defense. Too many bad habits developed over the past 5 years, they won't be fixed in half a season.

  10. I might be wrong but. Detroits 1st pairing defence plays with the 2nd line forwards. and 2nd d plays with 1st line forwards. The first part of the year when Ramond played 2nd line and 1st line d pairing was ben and MOE.(Mo took a tumble his numbers). 2nd pair d was at the time hronek and maatta(short stent walman). both H and M putting up career numbers. So few games after Walman Returns. they pair him up with MOE which is a 1st d pairing (MOEs numbers goes up.) a little bit before that Ramond was back with lark 1st line.) 2nd d line pairing is now ben and Hronek and guess whos numbers start to drop. hmm (hronek). It seems like someone else should of been figured in that. not just Raymond. out of or top 5 d ben has the worst numbers.

  11. If it continues in season 3 it might be an issue. There will be some lineup changes upcoming as well.

  12. We keep forgetting that most advanced analytics are predictive, not descriptive or diagnostic. So when we see, for instance, a high rate of HD chances against, that might not reflect the player’s work in the DZ—especially for a winger, who typically is not responsible for areas that tend to generate HD opportunities. The problem might be located in his play in the CZ, or even in the AZ. He might, for instance, be prone to attempting low-percentage east-west plays high in the AZ that can lead to odd-man rushes the other way; he might misunderstand his zone play in the CZ, leading to the opposition gaining the zone with possession. Or he might go too deep into the DZ and leave the point & high slot open for the third man in to exploit.

The analytics demonstrates a statistical trend. The coaches then use video analysis to identify the actual cause of the data results and develop a plan to correct the problem. That’s why the analytics department is always a part of the video coaches’ group.

  13. Bad topic to make a video about. Raymond is only 20 LOL, give him some time. I know you want those views but C'mon.

  14. Highlighting hypothetical negative stats like scoring chances that don't score or goals against while you're on the ice is click bait dude. Detroit is obviously struggling defensively as a whole but is competing much better as a team. Whether you're a veteran or a rookie on the team this is a new coaching system in its first year. I see this defensive complaint all the time from fair weather fans and it's gross. Player accountability and team dynamics take time when something is brand new to someone to learn. Not every player that young or even talented to gonna be a perfect well rounded person straight in the big league, especially a rebuilding team.

  15. For a while, I thought Raymond was the player chosen in the 2020 draft. Hope this is just an odd down year for him.

  16. Eye test: raymond is pretty responsible on defense. Only liability is bertuzzi… especially offensively

  17. Raymond will develop that part of his game better. He's a young player playing against the other team's best every night. His sample size playing with other players or further down in the lineup isn't that big. It's not a longterm concern, and he will develop that as the team improves.

  18. The Seider/Charrot pair was analytically, the worst in the NHL for a time. Sometimes it takes awhile to find line combinations that work well. Perhaps it will even take a couple more seasons for Raymond to find the right balance to his game. I'm not concerned. It is a very interesting article, though. Something to think about.

  19. First of all, "constant set of variables" is an oxymoron. Second of all, Advanced Analytics is just porn for numbers nerds and doesn't always reflect what's going on (i.e. the Flyers are one of the worst analytical teams in the NHL and they're winning a decent amount of games). Third of all, linemates and forward combinations aren't the only thing that affect defense. You've also got coaching and more importantly the defense behind them, with that second one being a better indicator of where the problems lie. Finally, the kids 20. He probably does have some work to do defensively and a lot of learning to go yet, but it's still too early to call him a "defensive liability".

  20. This is really dumb reasoning to describe a really responsible two way player. Ive watched nearly every Wings game the last two seasons and Raymond is a dog on the puck in the D-zone. On rush chances coming back he's often back before his line mates to help his d-men and he's in the passing lanes or taking the second or third man on the rush helping the defenders force the rush to the perimeter. Where Raymond will then grind it out and regains possession.
Where he sometimes gets compromised is when he's rubbed off the puck by bigger stronger players, so he needs to beef up a bit especially since he's a small guy. The only other thing I want to see him do less of is some of the passes he makes on zone entries and wing to wing passes on the cycle that lead to turnover rush chances going back in the DET zone………but that's why you have defensemen.

All in all he's developing into a great player, I see a lot of Backstrom and Zetterberg in his game. This really is a silly video with weak support.

  21. This likely isn't the reason, but I've seen him be the last off on a change quite often, not being able to get off the ice for whatever reason. Not making excuses, just saying it's something I've noticed.

  22. While you can’t argue numbers…Raymond is 20 years old !!! Most high draft picks aren’t even in the NHL at this point…they’re in the minors. He’s learning on the fly at the NHL level, give him some time.

  23. I dont really put stock into that the first 3 years mcdavid was in the league they said he was a defensive liability i know he isnt going to win a selke but come on its just growing pains
