Amazing year so far for Seattle! Still not renewing my season ticket in 2024 after my 3 year contract is up. They are delusional with their ticket prices
We want the Cup! Francis about to make a mockery of all the media.
Most teams that haven't been in the playoffs previously don't actually win the cup their first time in but Seattle is scary because they are loaded with vets that have either won or gone on deep runs previously. No way Id bet against them making a run to the western conference finals
CAN YOU DO THE LEAFS NEXT???
Really hoping they stay disciplined come the trade deadline. They shouldn't sell their long term future because of the possibility of a run this year. Much better to put the right pieces in place for Beniers and Wright to take it further in a couple of years.
The Kraken are fun to watch. No real superstars yet. Beniers may be that one day. But they have solid, offensively capable players up and down the lineup.
Furthermore, I just love the branding. I was pulling for the Kraken name leading into the unveiling. And I think they nailed the logo, color scheme, and all that.
Kraken I picked to Finish 4th in Pacific without a shred of doubt in my prediction. While others did question me even asking if I meant 4th in Western Division overall haha. Ron Francis is who I wanted them to hire even contacting team about him along with name even colors before it was settled on. Him trading for Bjorkstand is when I really believed they were set. He signed the RHD he lacked with Schultz while making a few others signings or moves to fill roster depth. His mistake was signing Grub to that contract setting the team back three to five years. If he kept Goalie he took form Capitals who now is on Devils it would have worked better. Biggest Reason doing Great is Alberta Teams Calgary/Edmonton faltering and Canucks flopping ;).
Kraken are doing, great. No need to super stars and their associated ego's. I hope they don't change plans at the trade deadline.
Never the less they could use better defence, but Erik Karlsson is way over priced.
If only Mccan could’ve stayed on the Leafs
They can go deep beating really good teams like Boston in Boston. Also they have a ton of draft capital to trade from 3 second round picks this year) to help make the team even better.
I genuinely hope they continue with this roster building formula. Continue to add depth and also I’d like to see them keep their first rounder to add to the prospect pool.
I’m worried that they might go down the scattergun approach Vegas did(does) with pouncing on big names whenever available “for the sake of it” it kinda felt. Think Tatar, Patches, Stone and Eichel, not necessarily bad players but the amount they gave up for them and depth that had to be sacrificed. Renting a Klingberg doesn’t strikes as a bad idea, new start and change of scenery with everything to play for with an expiring contract should be seen as an exciting opportunity for both parties. But the price should also be right, don’t do it for the sake of it. This isn’t the player, also relative to production, you should give up a first, second and other valuable asset. Find bargains instead as you’re probably better off adding to the prospect pool or adding someone with at least term and tad younger with the picks. Then there’s the cliche of the “bunch of misfits” as a new expansion team shouldn’t be underestimated. Admittedly there’s quite a few that arrived after the draft but for instance taking away minutes from the likes of Adam Larsson and Dunn who has flourished and possibly playing their best hockey ever doesn’t cling well. Give them guys that got you there the opportunity to play for it. Don’t rent a new line
Seattle has such a lovable fanbase and actually seems to be as passionate when they win as much as they are now. It feels like the opposite of Vegas where it felt like they were given a chance of going far in the playoffs in retrospect, but instead was left for dead in some instances during their first year. They seem like the western team I would love to be a fan of in the future if they keep being this likable and not play dirty like them Knights.
This season is exceeding expectations. I was hopeful they would compete for a playoff spot. Now? I’m hoping they can win a playoff series. Do I dare dream of an appearance in the Stanley cup finals? Time will tell.
Donskoi suffered his seventh concussion in training camp last fall and is still experiencing symptoms from it. He had an interview with a Finnish magazine last week where he states he is considering ending his career over.
Lifelong Seattle fan here. I think they'll crash down to earth after the break. Edmonton has an easier second half schedule. I think we end up in the wildcard spot or just outside looking in if some teams catch fire. I just don't see our goalie tandem keeping this up.
Shannon, given the way the Kraken are playing, why would you potentially mess with their chemistry by going after a top tier player that would require them to trade their first round pick? I'm curious who you'd want to add and why you'd be fine trading away a first rounder in what is supposedly a quite deep draft year. My thought is if it's not broke, don't fix it. The team is still only in their second year, and first round picks are generally gold for such teams (heck, for nearly all teams – yes, I'm talking about you Boston and Pittsburgh). The more quality options in the farm team, the better.
They'll win the division and get knocked out in the first round because they have no playoff goaltending. They should trade for Demko, hell bounce back for them.
GO KRAKEN!!
I'm not overwhelmed by their record. It is heavily padded this year. You're getting teams making the playoffs that really aren't that great this year. Mediocrity abounds in the league this year. I don't think them being a "buyer' will have much of a benefit in the big picture. There is no need for them to buy.
Really exciting for the Kraken. Hopefully the goaltending can hold up, I’ve got the feeling that’ll be the key for seeding and being competitive in a playoff series. It’s awesome to have a guy like Beniers get playoff experience so quickly too.
Ron Francis could and should be GM of the year! Proven winner and building things the right way. Eeli Tolvanen was a great quiet pick-up from the waiver wire.
Jones is CLEARLY the mvp. He's not just "arguably" the best goalie. He's by FAR the better tender. The team also plays lights out when he's in net. You can just see the confidence the team has in Jones and you can see the confidence waver HARD when Grub is in net.
We're a team of scrappy, non star, players. We're out there scoring on all lines. We're out there blocking shots. I think we'd score more if we didn't try to pass it near the net so much. Just take the shot boys. See you in the playoffs.
Edmonton and Colorado are threats in the west… But if Seattle gets a klingberg or a Jacob on defense things change
