Even if the Canucks offered $7 million, if he turned that down, he obviously wasn’t keen on staying and put a high price on it. If he wanted to stay, he would have left money on the table. Plenty of players do it. When you’re making this kind of money, the difference between a 7 and 8.5 AAV isn’t huge. You’re already filthy rich. He’s been a really good all around player, but he’s not a perennial 40-50 goal scorer and he wanted to be paid like one more than stay here. He could have told his agent to get a deal done, but he didn’t. I don’t feel sorry for him. He made his choice. He choice business and a couple million over the team he was captain of. I don’t hate him for it, but I don’t pretend he’s an amazing guy because he’d rather make those 1-2 a year more than play here. He wanted out. It’s as simple as that. If he wanted to be here, he could have stayed, even with the Miller dumbassery.

He screwed the Canucks this year. Contracts are all that matters to these guys. Bo never played hard enough to make the playoffs in Van most of the time he was here

I think Bo is the kind of player that a franchise has to deem untouchable. You can replace his heart, class and commitment to the franchise and the community – not to mention his growth and performance on the ice as a Canuck captain. I think the franchise made a mistake.

It’s not just losing our captain and arguably best player that sucks. It’s how rare it is to have someone so significant want to stay with our team, only to be traded due to years of salary mismanagement and bad contracts.
