Putin has been using the popularity with Russian athletes and making deals with Russias top atheletes forever to spread his propaganda and make them push his agenda and most importantly make himself being associated with these people. Ovechkin is one very clear supporter of Putin’s and has been pushing his agenda for so long(it’s called greenwashing, google it).
Ovechkin’s child on a Ice in the all star event is no coincidence, because NHL knows who Ovechkin is and still continue to support and put him in the spotlight. Giving Ovechkin and Russia the chance to take advantage of the cute child on an event like this is such a victory for Putin’s propaganda team.
This whole thing is not about if the child has done something or not(cause obviously they have not), it’s about the NHL allowing Ovechkin and Putin to *use* this child in their own event as a cute, innocent propaganda tool.

Second, the truth is that most Ovechkin fans probably don’t watch him play because of his politics; they watch him play because he’s a monster—like the Dominator was. This raises an interesting question to me, and it seems unanswerable. I didn’t watch Tiger Woods golf while wondering if he was a good husband or not, but I could certainly understand why some golf lovers would choose not to watch him when the scandal broke. Or why some would say, « Not my business to judge him as a husband, » and keep on watching.
Lastly, I’m not sure about this father-son thing illuminating Ovie and Sergei. It seems wrong for the league (and for Sergei’s father, IMO) to single out this kid and put him on the ice as they did. Why not put together a bunch of family events for *all* of the all-stars’ kids and just show us some of the highlights? It’s pretty hard to argue against the idea that the NHL has made some changes this year that haven’t gone over well with the fan base: I guess we can add this to the pile.
