  1. Kinda like Tage Thompson’s monster contract based on his limited NHL experience. So far so good for Buffalo, though.

  2. the cap is going up signficantly in the next few years. This will be a market value contract for bo in about 2 years, or just a slight overpay

  3. 8.5 million I get but 8 years? Jesus NY better hope Horvat is amazing for all those years

  4. I feel like so many people are criticizing Bo over this contract for no reason. JT Miller didn’t become a point per game player until he was 27. Who’s to say that Bo won’t continue to improve as well? I really hope he proves everyone wrong because he’s been getting way too much disrespect from these arm chair GMs

  5. Everyone knew it was going to be steep. for 3 million more than Beauvillier I’d gladly take it. Just have to hope the cap keeps going up.

  6. We are laughing at you and everyone that agrees with your take Lego. C'mon man! You're a-okay with 7yx8m for JT Miller but not your heart and soul captain at 8yx8.5m? What a joke.

Also, give the man credit.. He signed with both a better team, and organization.

  7. It’s a lotta money but after this video I took at canucks cal friendly and ouch they’re contract situations are just as bad yikes

  8. I may be one of Bo's greatest supporters, but i agree with Lou, too much money and too long of a contract. But what is a manager to do? If you want the good productive players you have to really pay up to be competitive enough to win the cup. It sucks but it is what it is. The good news is Bo is continuing to get better every year, time will tell if he can even get any chemistry with his new team and even perform up to an acceptable level. Look at what Calgary is dealing with Huberdeau, that one is just not working right now and looks like a total disaster. These big money deals can kill a team fast from a cap hit disaster that can last 7-8 years. How many of these big deals even work out, not many i don't think.

  9. JT Miller is a head case and cancer on a team. Islanders did well getting Bo Horvat with giving up very little and signing him to a decent contract. Considering everyone was saying Bo Horvat was going to get 10 million per year on free agency.

  10. Why didn't Canucks add a couple of clauses in trade if he signs with NYI Canucks get something else and father NYI go into playoffs if they make it Canucks get more ? This Raty better not be another Goldobin I'm sure NYI saw what they had in Raty like San Jose saw in the next Bure !

  11. Lego you would have loved this contract if he signed it with the Canucks. Stfu

  12. I'm glad he got paid…by someone other than the Canucks. He's just not worth that much. Hope Miller lives up to his contract just to prove the haters wrong.

  13. He will revert back to a 60 point player. Im so glad we dodged that bullet. Bye bye snoreflat was nice knowing ya!

  14. Islanders 🏝 are desperate and this makes sense 💯 % they needed to get a player like him to be competitive otherwise they’re for sure losses in the playoffs year after year, you got to add/secure talent when the time is ripe. Hope Islanders do well but this is a huge risk

  15. Good for Bo I'd take him over Miller even at that price tag any day of the week

  16. Van dodged a big bullet. Phew. Happy for Bo and happy we are not stuck with another albatross contract like that for what we would get back for that.

  17. With the islanders not being the goal scoring team, and if he dosent score like he did for the cunucks.. as long as he is consistent and pushs the islanders over the edge whenever they need him im happy.. the islanders bought this system defensively and to be quite honest i dont expect many points from anyone on the team..

  18. I was on my FB writing a post basically expressing what this video does, but I kind of accidentally talked myself into how this is actually good for the Islanders.
Here's the points that I think are important for them:

Anders Lee will be 35 and a UFA in 3 years, and that seems like a prime time to make Horvat captain, he's a wondeful leader and that is clear.
Horvat has consistently proven he's one of the best faceoff guys in the league, and I think we often forget how winning faceoffs is the first barrier to winning games. NYI is in the bottom half of FOW%, and Horvat could help them improve this immensely.
Even if he only maintains his usual 0.65-0.75ppg pace, and not his current 1.1ppg pace, I think it is reasonable to recognize the importance of his faceoff skill, and his leadership.
He's also just incredibly reliable, both physically and as a 2-way player. Certainly not the best in the league, but I think that all of this makes it worth it for them.

I think Horvat is likely to still be getting his 0.65-0.75ppg by the end of this contract. He will probably be captain. He has proven to be consistently one of the best faceoff guys. And he will likely remain as reliable as ever.
And he could continue a point pace higher than his usual for a while, which would be a bonus.
And in 8 years when he is on his last year, the salary cap will have grown a lot, and his $8.5m will be a smaller chunk of the cap hit.

His added offensive output (which easily outshines Raty+Beauvillier in Horvats worst year) and faceoff skill, could actually be what they need to pull a playoff birth this year. And significantly improves the team long term.
We always think salary should reflect a player's ppg, and I'm beginning to realize that's really not the case. Horvat is incredibly valuable in so many other ways even if he doesnt keep up the 1.1ppg pace.

After writing this I am wishing more than ever that the Canucks kept him instead of miller.
I swear to you, losing his faceoff skill will be key for us tanking this year. Which, yes, is good, but I do wish we could have had that skill for the next 8 years.

  19. I think this is might turn out like the Johnathan Huberdeau contract. Coming off a high scoring team on a career year. There’s no way Horvat will be able to keep those numbers up with the islanders

  20. very simple. The Canucks is not able or not reachable to have a 2nd line center getting signed for 8.5m.

  21. Slo-Bo did really great for himself. Really happy the Canucks did not get suckered into signing this player for this kind of money. Not that the organization deserves it, but they dodged a huge bullet.

  22. Based on 1 yr performance a team is willing to ruin their future. Lou is the Benning for Islanders

  23. As a Islanders fan, I'm so glad that we locked him up for 8yrs and we need more playmakers.

  24. The islanders never gave Dobson his money after his career year because he had to prove that he could consistently play at that level. I thought Dobson was gonna get 7 mill but he only got 4 mill. But then Horvat also only 1 great season (on a different more offensive team) and he gets the money. It doesn’t make sense.

  25. So my question here is why the hell was Horvat #1 on the trade bait list from the get go, over Meier? He's older, only has 6 points more in 2 less games played on a much higher scoring team than SJ and hits half as much as Timo. Timos QO says it all, so maybe he's number 2 cuz he's less affordable than Horvat? That's the only logical explanation cuz Meier is flat out the more effective player as well as almost 2 years younger.
