This is great the islanders and a bunch of other teams because other players that could’ve commanded similar contracts to him are now forced into around this rate when they could’ve been closer to 9+
Think a winning deal for Horvat is 7.75m-8m, 8.8m is fair and probably is a steal in the later years while not being great now. Excited to see the electricity between him barzal and dobson for the future

Finally found tavares' replacement.
The future was already mortgaged so the Islanders are going all-in. Sorokin is so good I don't see the team bottoming out to a top 5 pick any time soon. I think Pageau deal is worse than Palmieri's. Pageau's shot hasn't recovered from the injury he got in the playoffs two seasons ago.
UPDATE:
First 4 years of the 8-year deal include an NTC (No Trade Clause). Final 4 years include a modified NTC (16-team no trade list).
The Isles will have Horvat for 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35. My guess if 5-6 of those years he is going to be a big piece of this team and worth his contract with the cap going up over that time. His percentage of the contract will lessen over time.
Horvat, Nelson, Pageau and Cizikas down the middle is pretty solid and it should give Barzal some relief from defensive zone coverage and a player to finish.
On a good team and good wingers Horvat will hit 75+ points for sure. The $8.5 aav will age well when the cap eventually goes up. Horvat is what they need. Horvat continues to get better, so I see him and the Islanders doing well.
