Was never a fan of him so I’m happy he’s failing. He’s actually in the absolute bottom tier in terms of defense in the NHL. Statistically horrible defensively.

Wondering if he will eventually just play winger.

Van fans seem really happy with Bearsy so far, fortunately. At least he gets to play with Hughes on the top pairing.

I’m probably blinded by bias but Bear looked great early in the season when he was paired up with Slavin

He’s horrible defensively, and always has been. Not sure that Philadelphia got beyond his points total in Carolina during their evaluation of him last summer.

Coghlan isn’t getting paired with Slavin.

Slavin + A lawn chair = top 50 defensive pair.

while we are here I’d like to shout out to all the people who said it was a bad deal to drop DeAngelo before his « big boy » contract and instead picked up Burns.

Coghlan and Bear didn’t have the offensive ability to make them worthwhile in the lineup. DeAngelo did…..until he self-destructed in the playoffs and made himself not worth the trouble.

It’s a bit concerning that they expected him to have even average defensive ability. Wtf are they doing in that front office? Everyone knows our whole thing is pairing offensive-minded defensemen with Slavin to unleash their full potential. It’s why Slavin might be the most important player on the team, or at least close to it.

TDA was good for Carolina! Bring him back!!

Sucks for him to have his coach talk about him like that, but I mean…anybody who watched a single shift could tell you he was bad at defense. I can’t fathom how a professional organization with scouts and analytics could be surprised by this. Did they just look at the goals column and decide he was elite based on that?

Just want to say I wasn’t a fan when we signed him due to the baggage, but he kept his head down here played hard and brought an edge to our blue line I felt like we sorely needed during the dougie era. Wasn’t happy to see him go but that’s why I’m not GM, trust in Waddell

I don’t think he “basically admitted” anything – Torts flat-out called Tony out! Ouch!

Tony is still better defensively than coghlan and bear
