And people were mad at what we traded away to get him and thought we overspent for him. We for sure won that trade even without the draft pick results.

since i have too much time on my hands i went and looked at everyone that’s scored 44 or more points this year

most of them are high-priced elite vets. a small fraction are well-regarded guys on bridges (jordan kyrou, barzal, roope hintz). a smaller fraction are high-end talent on ELCs (ex tim stutzle, troy terry and zegras last year).

then we get to unheralded guys that were signed at microscopic numbers that have vastly outproduced their cap hit – either by blowing up out of nowhere, finding a perfect team fit, or a team trading term for cap hit. i looked at last year and this year and there’s like 4-5 guys that fit this category. chandler stephenson. michael bunting. ryan hartman and barbashev last year (who of course didn’t maintain that kind of production this year). and hagel.

1.5 aav is like good 4th liner money. matt martin makes the same amount as hagel does. good young players on sweetheart contracts are almost never available and the ones that are, are worth that huge price tag that jbb paid.

  3. Hagel needs to go back to the first line. With his takeaway skill it not only neutralizes Kuch’s careless turnovers, but it also sets up the deadliest passer in the game with more opportunities.

Stammer seemed to gel with Cirelli and Killer, and provided a great second line production wise.

Although I wonder if Paul would be better on that line instead of Killer.

We need to keep him for a long time. I knew when we got him he was going to fit in well.

Fortunately I don’t think Hagel is underrated by Bolts fans. The consensus seems to be that he’s amazing and we all love him.

Actually, it might be good if other teams don’t fully recognize how great he is. He’s like a secret weapon.
