The defensive system and pk is definitely a positive this year. They’re building the right way. The offense will come.

With exception of a few games almost all our games since new year weve held our opponents to 2 or 3 goals. Even edmonton had a hard time scoring til the end

Everybody complaining on the other post with the offensive stats should shut up and appreciate this. Defense is significantly harder to teach and perform. We’re better than league average even with half our defense being bad. We have a ton of scorers in the pipeline, so the goals will come once all these young guys get comfortable playing NHL level defense all the time.

Just don’t look at the xGF%. But yes, Lalonde’s system seems to work decently at suppressing chances and any viewer excitement. I’m only partially kidding

If only we had some offense

A lot of the defense comes from surviving through sheer effort in the defensive zone, which is worth praise, but there’s still room for improvement. Goals against will go down more if they can improve in the other areas of the ice. And if the forwards could actually get in good position to carry the puck out.

Maybe I’m just turning into an old man, but what on earth is the point of looking at « expected » goals against when you can literally just go look up how many goals have been scored against teams?
