The biggest surprises for me here compared to my eye test are McCann’s dWar, Beniers’s oWar, a Bjorkstrand’s dWar (bet that’s rising since being put on a line with Gourde and Tolvanen, though).

McCann’s contract is such a steal.
Not sure about his defensive efficiency being elite, but he’s been huge on offense and a solid overall contributor for someone I think of as primarily a shooter.

Soucy with the 4% penalty percentile.

Yanni at 80% Penalties even though he leads the team in Penalty Minutes, how is the Penalties % calculated?

Schwartz has been such a disappointment. Terrible in every category and hard to watch on the ice. Injuries have slowed him down but damn. -11 plus/minus on a team with only two negative players is bad.

1. Beniers has still only taken 1 penalty in his career so far.
2. Beniers and McCann should really look to shoot more. That’s the only reason I don’t like them on the same line. Beniers tends to be a little too deferential, and McCann isn’t a high-volume shooter, so them together kind of artificially limits their O-for contributions
3. I think Oleksiak’s no-frills offensive game gets overlooked. He’s generally good at zone-exists and doesn’t complicate things in the O-zone.
4. I’m surprised to see Larsson’s dWAR so low AND so different from Dunn’s. Larsson does lead the team in blocks and hits – which are both usually good shorthands for telling us who does a lot if defending when they’re on the ice – but I would have guessed Larsson was one of the few Dmen who could thread that needle while still being a positive overall contributor
