I really donât see how any team out west is going to be favored in the cup finals this year.

The top team in the west only has a 10-point lead over 9th place

Do you guys think the east typically dominates in hockey like the west typically dominates in basketball?
Obviously itâs not like we havenât seen championships go to the Bucks or Heat just like weâve seen championships go to the Kings or ~~Canucks~~, but overall?

Eastern Conference is like the AL East of baseball.

Iâm going to get **absolutely crucified** for this â but, personally I think two major reasons why weâre in 6th place are Jaroslav HalĂĄk and GGâs desire to never play the same goalie back-to-back.
HalĂĄk started the season 1-6-1, if he was as hot as he is now, perhaps we couldâve scooped up a few of those games. If we won three of those 8, thatâs 6 more points and weâre tied with CAR for 2nd place in the East and 1st in the Metro.
Obviously thatâs all hypothetical, banking on the season playing out in the exact same fashion â but, we definitely fumbled some easy wins.
As I said, I know I will be downvoted to hell, but racking up points early in the season is really a key factor in a successful NHL season.
Iâm really happy with how HalĂĄk has played for us lately, but dropping those early games may come back to haunt us come playoff time.
Games like Nov., 6th vs DET and Dec., 3rd vs CHI (The Helmet Game) come to mind as few that we couldâve won.

2 teams have an 8-1-1 record in their last 10. One of them is us. Guess which division the other team plays in. Spoiler: they aint playing out west

a big part of it is that the normally-competitive California teams are all in rebuild mode, or in LA’s case i guess just getting out of one. SJ and LA were dominant in the 2010s and likewise ANA the decade before.
And Canadian teams, the western ones especially, seemed to have always struggled, at least in my lifetime. (canada hasnt won the stanley cup since 1993). So you’re really just left with the handful of midwest teams.

We’re in hell and we’ve got to dance with the Devils.
