And somewhere off screen “Levi is the truth”

  2. 3rdEyeJoker

I still see next year it being upl and Levi rotation but who knows if they’ll want to push Levi in pros right away 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don’t think UPL sucks. I think even the best goaltending prospects shouldn’t be counted on to take over as a full time starter till ~25-26. Which makes Adams goaltending strategy even more confusing. Going into last year I was confused. Coming into this year I was past confusion to just accepting it as a legit weakness of his ability as a GM. This team needed a starting goalie and he came into the year with a 41 year old, a backup / AHL’er, and a 23 year old who had been trending the wrong direction in the AHL. What is that? I think it’s turned out exactly as predicted. Young talent and good coaching has the team playing very competitively most nights but below average goaltending is going to keep them out of the playoffs

the problem is was the offseason goaltending strategy was « Eh, we’ll figure something out »

UPL doesn’t suck, but Comrie certainly does. He is a rebound machine.

IMO, Anderson’s performance has dropped off significantly. He is the most unreliable option of the 3. He might be providing veteran leadership off the ice, but can’t produce at the same level anymore. It happens.

I am starting to feel the same way about Okposo. Girgrensons has been carrying Okposo for most of the season. In reality, Asplund might be a better option. Seeing Okposo on the PP is pretty sad.

It’s heartbreaking because you want them to be part of the success, but the game has passed them by.

UPL shows really strong signs of growth but needs more consistent play. I haven’t liked Comrie’s play much more than Anderson, but maybe he has more to give. I’d like to see about 10-15 games out of him.

Remember the “just go high glove on UPL, he sucks,” days? Pepperidge Farm remembers

I think this chart would have been perfect in December, but we’re in mid-February now and we’ve got a *decent* sample size of each goalie at this point. UPL is your rookie starter and you just gotta roll with the punches and look for signs of development.

Our goaltending won’t be good unless we get better at dealing with the forecheck which hopefully comes with time jokiharju , power, Samuelson and dahlin are all 23 and under same with Krebs, cousins, jj, quinn. These players will continue to physically develop.

Injuries have screwed the goalie situation both this year and last, but I can’t help wondering if at some level they considered it a non-issue due to not expecting to be competitive. The trio we have is fine for a team that doesn’t actually expect to make the playoffs, but now we’re looking at that as a realistic possibility and panicking. It feels like our skaters are 1-2 years ahead of schedule on development, and with that being the case we have a goaltending crisis that wasn’t really expected until after *next* season.

There’s probably no solution for this season, but I imagine Anderson is likely to retire and hopefully we can sign a real starter. Comrie has one year left on his contract, and I’m ok with him as a backup next year while we’re still developing, but the year after needs to be UPL and an established goalie who can play well.

I mean a good part of why our goaltending sucks is not the goaltenders, it’s that our defense gives up a fair bit of high danger chances. They’re not the most quality group but our team doesn’t always make it easy for them.

LOL. As a former beer league goalie, I feel like there’s two types of fans just like there was two types of beer league teammates.

After a bad game: 1) It’s all your fault. 2) Thanks for giving us a chance. (Yes we know you don’t mean it, but we’re already beating ourselves up, so the kind words are appreciated).

After a good game: 1) *Crickets* 2) Great game! You were unreal!

I say they give Comrie more starts and see how he responds. He looked rusty as fuck , and bad, bad, bad on the first two goals last night. Looked sharper as the game went along. Over-sliding the post on the first goal was a big sign of rust for me. That’s not a mistake a guy who’s been playing makes. 2nd goal- he didn’t make himself a big enough target while he tried to find the puck. More or less stood up straight as a stick while craning his neck side to side.

I wouldn’t say UPL sucks, but he’s been a little off from where he was back in December/early January. Those are the ups and downs you get with young goalies, and sometimes that’s just who a guy is. I’m not sure which is true for 6K right now- I hope it’s the young goalie thing.

Anderson plays every 4-5 games and had a bad one last time out. It happens. He’s 41 and still has the best numbers of the 3.

Three headed monster is what it is, but I look forward to getting this down to 2 again, even if it takes until next year.

    should just be teamdefense sucks.

  14. suppaman19

This sub knows Anderson is at the end and can’t play often.

I’ve routinely been downvoted and shit on for pointing out the truth that UPL is not a starter and hasn’t shown any real flashes of being the guy, while noting he’s the best we have right now on the roster.

Comrie is not even playing at a high AHL level right now and his history doesn’t suggest he’ll be good going forward.

I’ve routinely said goaltending is our biggest need. Yes, we need to round out the bottom six with versatile defensive forwards. Yes, we need another top 4 defensemen and need one or two bottom pairing defensemen too. But the team defense is not so bad that we should be routinely giving up 3 goals or more nearly every game. Goaltending is the number one reason this team this year is being held back a bit and is not sitting in playoff position at the moment.

Now, this team isn’t really playoff ready for a serious run against the better teams, but they are good enough to make the playoffs and get critical experience, and never say never if you get in.

Last night the defense sucked. Other than Comrie’s normal « no one actually holds the puck to stop play » mentally, which drives me crazy, I really only hold the first goal against him.
