  1. The Wild put themselves in a position to have the cap space to go for a player like Kane or O'Reilly if they were higher in the standings and were almost assured to be in the playoffs. Even after this deal, the Wild can take on another $10 million in annual salary if they wanted to as long as it was a contract which was expiring. Their playoff picture has gotten a lot worse in the last two weeks, so they're likely going to make a couple more transactions like this to gain draft capital instead. The Wild lose Pillar who they weren't going to sign anyway and got a middle round pick for it. Seems fine for the Wild.

  2. I like this for the leafs and I am habs fan. They could use more help on defense, but I like them against Tampa a good bit more now.

  3. So, I get it that Steve got high and, as (supposedly) a person with the royal blood of Umber, started to bend the reality of our Shadow. This is how this trade happened.

  4. Rielly the best faceoff guy in the league. Leafs should be best faceoff team in league. Rielly on the PP and PK faceoff circle is huge.

  5. Now if the leafs trade Kerfoot and a couple of the marlies they can make another big move. Jake McCabe 50% retention and Taylor Raddysh this is less than 3.5 million. They sign Knies and Raddysh could be the next Bunting.

  6. As a blues fan, I'm more pissed we traded accari. He's one of the only players ok the blues that give it 100% every game.

  7. So trading away a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and a 4th round pick is mortaging the future, but I am sure this will put the leafs over the top. Don't think O'Reilly is the same player he was when the Blues won it all, but he is a quality forward for sure.

  8. The Leafs needed improvement on the wing and on defense. Maybe even in net.
And so Dubas gets a center.
An older center. Who's in the middle of having a terrible year.
I worry that Toronto is going to find out the hard way that 2023 Ryan O'Reilly is not 2019 Ryan O'Reilly.

  9. yo want to say Jesse I respect the commit. What time did you have to be awake to make this? Or what time did you stay up to?

  10. having centre depth is huge especially incase of injury like was the case when tavares got hurt vs the habs

  11. he has a beard. he won't be pushed around. our 3rd line centre just got better. Acciari too made the PK better.

  12. Best winger at a reasonable cap would be Josh Anderson. Though I don't know how they make it work considering their cap space and what assets would they have to give up.

  13. This is a great trade by Dubas. We didn't lose much at all and it barely took from the cap. Well done!

  14. So the Leafs gave up a 1st (‘23), 2nd (‘24), 3rd (‘23), 4th (‘25) and two AHL players in total. For O’Reilly, Aciarri, and a prospect (Pillar). But O’Reilly is still a rental and that seems like a lot of draft capital to me.

  15. Love Waffles Leaf T!!!! So cute. How did O'Reilly, Acciari and Pillar become Leafs without Soo Greyhounds credentials?

  16. There goes the next 4 seasons for our team. Just frustrating to see them give up so much talent… I didn’t want to see it happen.

  17. BriseBois to Dubas: Hold my beer Kyle because you can and you will! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤭

  18. Blues fan here. You guys won this trade. But not because of Ryan O’Reilly. Well not really, we are gonna miss our Captain. But Noel Acciari has been easily one of our best players this year. He doesn’t show up on the score sheet much, but he never makes a mistake, hits hard and passes like a dream.

  19. Facts:

    1. The Leafs HAD to make an impact trade. That first rounder, at the very least, was guaranteed out the window.
    2. The Leafs have the option of trading out a roster player like Kerfoot to recoup picks or make room for a depth dman, if this is a real concern.
    3. O'Reilly is having a down year (and he is on the decline), BUT his underlying stats suggest that he is still generating a LOT of offense. AND this gives Toronto CRAZY center depth. Just…insane.

  20. Leafs arent going anywhere until they get a top rate goalie!! am I the only one that can see this?

  21. Noel Acciari as another center means the there are now 5 centers, including Kampf that are over 50% on faceoffs. Pontus Holmberg, Jarnkrok, Kerfoot, Bunting, Engvall, Aston Reese, lots of left wingers. The small move is likely someone(s) going for a right wing. Preferably some big and tough enough to fight with some measure of goal potential or shut down defence beyond what Simmonds brought.

Really wished Simmonds had worked out, but for whatever reason it didn't. He can be thrown into any eventual trade of a lefty for a rights as a potential replacement prospect for whoever is the right winger the leafs would be getting. Maybe he will land on the right team for his style of play.

  22. I think O'Reilly is pretty decent in the regular season, but he's a BEAST in the playoffs.

  23. Here you go Leaf fans… PS I hate the Leafs but because the NHL is no different then the NFL/WWE… The Leafs will win the CUP before AUSTON heads off to Arizona. While I hate the Leafs i bet on them to win the CUP… now watch

  24. Same as last year who was it a big winger who plays hard who was that lol come on by from newfoundland
