Did Minnesota get screwed in this deal? They get a 4th rounder and get stuck with a quarter of O'Riley's salary and lose a prospect. I'm selling my house in the spring………
Dubas is about out of time and moves now. If this doesn't work the next guy will have to be the one to make hard choices and fix his imbalanced roster. The asset pool can be replenished by trading out some of the core before they won't re-sign for anything but too much money. They need someone to stop the vicious cycle if possible.
O'Reilly is an elite Selke defensive forward/center who at best could produce at least 50 points for a season, he's basically a very good two way forward or even more specific he's good on both sides of the puck especially defensively.
He's in the category of elite defensive forwards or elite two way forwards like Anthony cirelli from Tampa, Philip Danault from L.A., Patrice Bergeron from Boston, Mark Stone from Las Vegas, Bo Horvat from New York Islanders, Anze Kopitar from L.A. and Alexander Barkov from Florida, there is others for sure but I named enough. I realize Crosby deserves to be in that conversation as well most ppl just think of him as an elite offensive player and that's it but he's very good defensively as well especially now that he's older and not as explosive he has to adapt.
So far this season O'Reilly has only 19 points and he's a -24 but if you look at some of his past season stats, he did have some good seasons, so players are going to have off seasons at least once in their careers, he's only 32 even some players may age quickly at a younger age.
The Leafs need Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander all on deals like O’Reilly if they want to truly win a Stanley Cup. Otherwise it’s not going to happen for them. Ever. I hate the Bruins but in all honesty they have all their core guys on team friendly deals. That’s one reason why they are successful so often year after year. You can’t be strong in only one area of the ice and expect to win. The Leafs have concentrated only on offensively gifted players. Scoring goals is great but they won’t win games if they can’t keep the puck out of their own net.
you want to win in the playoffs, you win down the middle, goaltending and conistsent defenseive play. this guy can play literally every situation. he won what, 86% of his draws last night?
"Massive Win"?? We don't know until the playoffs – this guy is getting older and is not having an epic year. And has been injured a lot this year as well. You can say on the surface it is a nice acquisition and I would agree – but if they don't win at least one round heads will roll as they won't have many prospects or draft picks left next 2 years.
SABOTAGE Dubie has caused huge ripple effect on going problems. Dubie has sold the farm and the future as a desperate move to keep his job. Shany Dubie Keefie are the problem and not the players.
WHAT GAME DID THIS TEAM WIN. WHAT MASSIVE WIN ?????? TO MONTREAL THATS NOT A WIN!! THE TEAM THATS OUT .WHAT WIN THATS A JOKE!!@ PLAYBA REAL TEAM THEY LOSE

He gets injured game 2 of the playoffs. Screenshot this.
Good trade by Dubas. Cost the Leafs a few low crummy picks they don't need anyways.
The leafs are always winners on paper but we all know what happens at play off time.
Hey if the leafs win the cup ill quit smoking

Big trade for the Leafs!
First game tonight and he was so timid. How did he win a cup and Con…okay…kidding. He demanded respect. The price paid is worth every penny!
I'm a sens fan, but I kinda hope the jets and Oilers make a big trade too. It would be nice to have 3 Canadian cup contenders
Leafs gave up way way too much for this clown. See you crying about it when you lose your top draft pick year after year… Kyle D is insane!
😂

And of course instead of having Oreilly center the third line they move Tavares to wing and don’t utilize the center depth….
This is a massive L for the leafs. ROR is an over the hill vet who is having a terrible season. What a joke.
Past his prime, best days behind him, another example of the Leafs trying to win yesterday's Cup.
