  1. This is a great video. I’m a pretty inexperienced hiker. What do you recommend for someone like me? Is this doable for a beginner?

  2. Can short segments of your video be used with a CC license? You mention this above, but I'm sure if you meant your can be used, or you used others. Thanks. Nice video.

  3. Thanks for very helpful information! I just got lottory and very exciting about it. After watched your video, I know what to bring. Thanks again!

  4. Very informative video, thank you. It’s not an easy park to get in. The road to the waves and a 6 miles walk to get to the wave from the parking lot 😅😅😅What you need to ore while inside the waves, it looks big to be tuning and find the wooded area or bathroom??

  5. I'm two minutes into this video, and I can already tell its going to be fun, informative and straight to the point. I watched two videos prior to this, and they felt so scattered. I had to skip around here and there, but still didn't find them that useful. Thank you for this guide. The visuals help a ton and overall layout of information.

  6. how do you take a still photo, but yet you can move across the still photo to have that movement ? thanks

  7. Thanks so much for this information…. Would you consider hiking the wave difficult? We are moderate hikers but could deal with intermittent difficulty. Best regards…..

  8. Very cool! Have you also done South Coyote Buttes via Cottonwood trail? Is the drive to Cottonwood much more rough/difficult than to Paw Hole? Thanks!

  9. Thanks for the detailed information! Would you say the road to the hike is doable with a non-4×4 campervan? Or do we have to rent an additional 4×4 vehicle in Page, just to reach this hike, if we win the permit?

  10. Just got back from my Wave trip. It was incredible, but not sure I would spend years tying to get a permit. The Wave is still overwhelmed even with the 60 people limit. Unfortunately you are likely to find Chinese/Asian people plopping their butts in the main section for the entire day. The ranger we met said it has become popular for wedding photos and these all day photo shoots. He told a story about a Japanese couple where the woman brought 10 changes of clothes with matching shoes. On our trip there were like 6 Chinese people 2 "models" and 4 others taking pictures. They were pretty much in the same spot for at least 4 hours. If you need to get pictures, they will move if you ask. But, they still made it feel like you were the one in the way if you wanted to walk through that section or take photos. Technically they should be getting a professional photoshoot permit for something like that. Maybe it was our unlucky day, but it seems to be becoming a problem that the BLM needs to place limits on.

It was a zoo and not really a pleasant experience at the Wave itself. It's a once in a lifetime trip that you will only want to do once. But, please go prepared. Do not bring your dog. Carry all the water they recommend. But, if you are just there to be a tourist, do photo shoots and ignore the rules, stay home. Unless you are an experienced and prepared backcountry hiker who can hike 6 or more miles in extreme and variable conditions, you will be wasting your time and money or worse yet, spending a lot of money for a rescue. Spend the money and hire one of the local guides if you are inexperience and insist on going.

Sadly, they changed the day of lottery and you can register for it online even if you are in Page or Zion. Which means that the casual tourists will be terribly overwhelming I bet.

Funny thing about the road, the next day, a friend tried to help some girls who had a pass for that day. They got a sidewall cut in their tire and they had only reached Buckskin Gulch. They would have had to travel the rest of the way on a donut tire or hitch a ride in to make their hike. The road was in almost perfect condition with just minor washboard. So, yeah, the road can cause problems. And, I have seen it with very deep ruts from winter mud. It's not that far, but if you are driving a Prius or similar light passenger car, you'd better plan for double or triple the time to cover the miles. Also watch out for tumbleweed. Do not run over a tumbleweed! They can easily destroy tires too.

They have added a few more markers for way finding. And, by the time you get near The Wave, there will be a pile of people at the steep climb into it. So, it's not too hard to find if you study the maps and have good navigational skills. If not, you will probably get lost.

  11. I just won my permits for November yesterday so I'm in the very early stages of planning but I can't wait!

  12. Okay, the road, though. Do you know on average what it would be like in mid-December? I got a permit already but the road is kinda scary. I know it could possibly be impassable due to snow. I am hoping for good conditions.

  13. Bro, all the info, all the research you saved me and others. Thank you, thank you , thank you! You are making some once-in-a-lifetime trips possible for my family and I.

  14. Government really about to tell me where I can or can’t explore in my own god damn country based on a lottery system

  15. We just hiked The Wave on 11/07/22; my husband, me, and my twins are 11 years old, and my two dogs are both mini schnauzers. The hike was no joke. It is not a flat trail; you will go up, down, and sideways. Lol
There is no trial, so please get yourself a trial app. I recommend the AllTrails app. It was beneficial. It is 3.2 miles to get there, and while you might think, “oh, 3.2 miles is not bad at all,” this one is. It took us 4 hours to reach The Waves. Be mindful of your time. You don’t want to be hiking when the sun goes down. We drove a Nissan Murano, and the road to get to the Waves was a bumpy drive, so please take your time driving it. Tolled trucks were at the entrance of the road. The experience was worth it. Take lots of water, snacks, a first aid kit, and a fully charged phone. Remember you will use your phone to navigate, so battery life is essential. We took a portable charger as well. When you reach the Waves and low-key cry inside, you will think it was worth it!! I know I did. 🥲
