If it makes you feel better, the team is not going to go into a full scale years long rebuild and will probably seek to revamp the lineup to be competitive next year. Like in ‘04 they started dealing everyone not nailed down and since there was a lottery for the draft, no guarantee of getting Ovechkin. That was way worse

Welcome to the fandom! This the best/worst decision you’ll ever make. It’s a fun ride. Even when we’re bad, there’re good times to be had

Pretty much….but that’s pretty much every year, so get used to it lol

Same boat, at least it’s entertaining

Oh no. You’re just now joining us?
Welcome. It’s only going to get worse before it gets better, but good news: you wont have to spend $70+ on upper bowl tickets because games will not be well attended.

At least tomorrow’s game is against the Rangers who have been floundering defense lately. One of us will come out of the losing streak.

I took my friend to their first game last night and I think I accidently introduced them to an anxiety disorder

Sorry you weren’t here for the good times. I’ve been expecting this downswing for a while, so I’m actually kind of relieved we’re starting to sell off pieces.

People are definitely going off the deep end.
I think they are overreacting to the situation (which is par for the course, it’s a subreddit, reactionary takes are the norm). The situation isn’t nearly as bad as people think, at least in my opinion. The sky isn’t falling, but there is a bit of rain.
The issue in the last month has come with the absence of John Carlson and the issues in the returns of both Backstrom and Wilson, who while are welcome to the lineup are still yet to get fully back up to speed. Backstrom hasn’t had a healthy offseason it feels like in years, I’d be hopeful he can get one this year. Wilson would have good with that too.
Carlson for the defensive woes he’s had, is still our best D man because of his ability on scoring. And the power play has mostly fallen because of his absence whether fans against Blaine Forsythe want to admit it or not.
Top that with significant underperformance from Kuzy and Mantha, guys we expect to perform in the top-middle 6, and we’ve got a team that doesn’t have much reliable secondary scoring.
The losing streak of late really has happened because we haven’t had Ovechkin in the lineup; both in his scoring ability and to take the pressure off other players. In the 6 game losing streak since the Boston win, 4 of those losses came in games with Ovechkin out of the lineup.
So what’s the solution?
1. Get healthier. A healthy offseason to recover and train properly for most of our guys would do wonders.
2. Get younger. Replace the third line with young guys. Protas needs to be a full time starter for instance, and we should see if we can shuffle in guys like Alexeyev and McMichael as full time players. Signing Dylan Strome and Sonny Milano is a start.
That’s pretty much it. Really I don’t think this team requires the “complete tear down” people think.
This team has made the playoffs in 14 of the last 15 seasons. There isn’t a team in the league who has made the playoffs more in that same span besides Pittsburgh. Every team goes through these occasional struggles and “vision decisions”. And hey, shit happens sometimes.

Oh, nice! You brought pizza?

This is my wife and kid. They finally got into the Caps last season. They got emotionally attached to Garnet Hathaway and are absolutely gutted right now.
