My buddy and I were here at 3pm that afternoon, and a lot of the parking was already full! I remember seeing homemade Stanley Cups (N&O had an article showing how to make your own) – still the best sporting event I’ve ever been to (even though we lost), topping Game 7 in 2006. Almost 6 full periods of hockey.

Man I remember this well. I spent my summers in grade school in Raleigh visiting my grandparents and cousins and I remember seeing a little bit of the tailgating from Wade Avenue. That was such a fun playoff run, sucks it ended up with Detroit winning but I became a full-fledged fan that Spring.

  3. Two years after this game, two guys were shot and killed during an argument between drunks tailgating before State football, causing the significant change in how long fans could tailgate at an event on the grounds. It’s since been relaxed some, but still at 5 hours. The NHL was only able to negotiate it to 6 hours. They tried for more.
