I guess depends on the trade, however that’s intriguing.
I’ve never understood the hate these guys have for certain markets. They aren’t here that often and on the road half the time anyways, careers are generally short. Why not play where you can win?
Jets essentially have to draft and develop a full team in order to build a contender.
Maybe supplement that with a couple of trades, but we basically need to draft a full team.

🙁
It’s simple: we trade for him, win the cup, he signs an extension. Just like that.
Right guys.. right????
Honestly I’m in a ‘if not now, when?’ Opinion of this roster. If we can work out a deal for Meier, let’s do it then flip his rights at the draft if he doesn’t want to re-sign. We’ll recoup a 3rd round pick or something.
Also, if SJ eats half, we can add Meier then do some tinkering in the bottom-6 as well.
Get Meier, then add two more competent wingers to play with Lowry and I think a lot of our problems will go away. The west is wide open, and outside of Colorado, there’s no team that scares me in the playoffs.
If we add Meier and can’t get a deep run out of this group, it’s time to blow it up at the deepest draft in a generation.
He’s an RFA right?
If the Jets traded for him could they do a sign and trade like Calgary did with. Tkatchuk? At least Chevy could recoup the assets it took to get Meier.
This is the kind of shit that makes it hard to be a jets fan. “He would not be interested in signing an extension in Winnipeg” must be one of the most commonly used sentences around trade deadline and free agency.
I’m not necessarily advocating for this but as far as rentals go Meier is a unique idea. He’s an RFA still after this season so we could actually get something for him after the playoffs. We would never get back what we paid to get him but we could still recoup some assets.
don’t do it
What, he doesn’t like random machete attacks!?!
Some rich Winnipeger has to start taking prospective players to Lake of the Woods in the summer. If only these guys and their families could experience this paradise in their backyard. Sure winter sucks here but summers are amazing.
If anyone in Winnipeg won 10 million dollars would they continue living here? Maybe. Would they spend their winters here? Definitely not. Why would we expect these millionaires who weren’t born here to want to live in this city? You can find winning culture in more desirable places to live. As Winnipegers and Jets fans we need to get over it. It’s never going to change.
A lot of people have a bad impression of Winnipeg because that drive from the airport to downtown makes our city look so shit.
They drive through an industrial park, and then the part of Portage Avenue from Polo Park to downtown is all rundown buildings and low rise offices, with the occasional panhandler.
It makes our city look way more boring and depressing than it actually is.
And there really isn’t anything exciting on the roads around Canada Life Centre. Like True North Square looks impressive but that’s hidden on the other side. They really need to improve Portage Avenue.
This is the bad place
Man, it’s really heartbreaking being a jets fan sometimes. Players are so fucking mean, but I get it I supposed. Still hurts. Fuck
Need some boys from the Flon, PA, N.Battleford, Thunder Bay etc. Molded by the weather, hard as iron, angry men looking to bring the prairie hurt to the rest of the NHL.
This is obviously hyperbole but I also kind of want to see this happen lol
And this is why Chevy has to play conservative. Blows my mind how people on here get mad when he hasn’t done anything – this is why. We can’t get anyone to sign here so he can’t throw away our future for some rentals.
How come he don’t want me man
It would’ve been naive to think he would. I don’t hold anything against him for wanting to sign elsewhere. Right now I hold everything against Chevy for not moving faster to address a severe lack of depth while this team quickly falls out of a playoff spot
This isn’t new. I hope some fans can realize how hard Chevy’s job actually is. He doesn’t get any freebies like nyr (fox, panarin, soon to be Kane).
We will always have to be a draft and develop team. Occasionally we will get players that enjoy being in a small city with a hockey mad market. That’s just the way she goes.
A few weeks ago I would have said do it anyway. The way they’re playing now though, I think it would be a waste of assets to trade for him.
SCHMALTZ
Then dont get him, fuck’em
I know it would never happen, but I wish the NHL would implement some kind if system where teams that end up on a lot of no trade lists got some kind of cap allowance or something. Like « if you’re on X amount of players no trade lists, you can go X dollars over the cap » or something like that.
I’m sure there are lots of nuances to it that I don’t realize, but on the surface, it allows players to choose where they don’t want to play, and allows teams that have trouble attracting players extra salary to incentivize coming.
A tale as old as time. Players are way too picky these days. I get it. He lives in California. Winnipeg is like Siberia compared to cali. Still not a fan. Players are too entitled these days with their no trade clauses and not wanting to play in certain areas. Seem ungrateful to have the nhl opportunity
But remember, this is all Chevy’s fault when players won’t sign here…/s
