You really gotta do kerfoot like that? Wonder if he’s gone by the deadline for an upgrade.

I’ve never seen a player hustle so hard and accomplish absolutely nothing.

Relax. He’s saving his goal scoring for the playoffs.

Yeah it’s unfortunate. He’s one of the most overpaid players in the league comparing his salary to what he brings. He hustles but has zero scoring ability. Either shoots it five feet wide, throws a terrible pass, or shoots a floater right at the goalie’s chest. It’s painful.

He also has the amazing ability to lead a rush, when his entire line in changing. I can’t remember a player with more 1 on 4’s

Does not shoot. Thinks he is a playmaker. Painful.

I honestly hope he gets moved in a trade for a defenceman. I would rather see Joey Anderson Alex Steeves or Bobby McMann on the fourth line with Acciari and ZAR. Then everyone on that line would be physical and tough to play against. Kerfoot does bring useful puck possession and transition characteristics, but everything else is a zero.

Linus Ullmark has the same amount of goals as Auston Matthews this month.

Looked closer at the stats to see if there’s a clue or signal for what’s going on. What first comes to mind is his usage, compared to previous seasons, he’s getting buried in 59% DZ starts, which is astronomically higher than previous years. That definitely impacts his corsi, so no surprise that that’s taken a dip. He’s also (unsurprisingly given the PP1 we have) almost completely devoid of power play time, which is where he generated the bulk of his points in Colorado/best offensive seasons. Now this is a bit of a chicken and egg thing; is his offence sputtering because he’s really put in a defensive role, or is he put in that role because he can’t produce? Hard to say, we’d have to have season splits to get more info on that.
Secondly, despite our complaints about him passing up chances, his shot totals as a rate are at a career high (7.1/60)! Meanwhile his shooting percentage is at a career low at 6.9%. If he was shooting his career/forward league average at 10%, he’d be right on pace for 14 goals, which is pretty much his career average.
Overall, stats kinda agree with the eye test that he’s playing the right way and generating chances, but is super snake bit. Some of that has to be attributed to his deployment, which limits his o zone time, and maybe the quality of his shots have suffered as well due to how he’s playing (no clue if anyone has high danger stats on hand). Is that good enough for 3.5 mil? Hard to say. If he and Acciari can carry a 4th line that can absorb DZ starts to a net neutral against teams like TB or Boston, that’s pretty much a win for the money, but at the same time there are upgrades out there on the market with cap retained.

I really feel for the guy, he’s seen his role diminish more and more, far below what his price tag demands
