Looks like I have new western conference team. Congratulations, coach!

Damn, I wanted him back. Excited for him to be on a team that’s easy to root for, though!

Good. Now let’s shut up about bringing him back as coach.

Good for Barry. The NHL has lost a great coach. Hope David is okay and just calling it time it retire. Lots of Caps history in this article.

Honestly very happy to see Trotz continue to be successful, I’m interested to see how he does as GM

I think the bigger Caps news from this is that David Poile is retiring.

He was the man who saved the Caps. They were close to moving in the summer of 1982. Then the Langway trade (his first move as GM) finally brought winning to what was a miserable team with some promise but zero direction. He built the perennial contenders of the 80s and refashioned the team for the first Cup run in the 90s (though he left beforehand to take the Nashville job).

There would probably be no Caps without what he did.

My opinion may get downvoted but oh well whatever. Congrats to Poile on his retirement. He had a long 40+-year career as a GM with the Caps and Preds. It was above average but otherwise unspectacular with only one finals appearance. Yes he made the big trade in ’82 that basically saved the franchise, but after that, eh.

Congrats to Trotz; will be interesting to see what he can do. Can he trade Forsberg back to us for Erat?

How does Trotz keep failing upwards?
