@Islanders de New York

    I hope he stays around but if he’s going to he’s going to have to take a pay cut

    I think it’s great that we have two top tier goalies, but I feel like we could use the money we pay him towards someone else.

  3. I would move him at the deadline for assets and try to re-sign him to a cheaper contract this off-season if he still wants to be here.

    I have heard this once before but Varly ain’t no snake, so I hope he stays around

    Good, I hope he does stay. Dude is mid 30’s and MAYBE a starter elsewhere but the perfect backup / mentor to sorokin. Come back at half price for 3 years and call it a career.

    This whole « trade him for assets » thing is easy for us fans to say. But it may very well wreak havoc on a player’s morale and life on and off the ice. It’s not worth it. Same with Mayfield and Parise. Although in Mayfield’s case he is due a slight raise.

    I know it’s just what usually gets said but it’s weird that we’ve become a team that people actually want to stay with

    He’ll take a discount, he’s signing.

    If he’s willing to take backup money, backup Varly is way more valuable than whatever we’d get for a rental trade. Him and Sorokin easily make the best tandem in the league. Big if though, otherwise it just aint gonna work.

    Does he want to re-sign enough to sign at a discounted rate? That’s the key

    if he’s willing to take 2mil or less then keep him but otherwise it’s not worth it

  11. if we could resign him for 1.5 for 3 years. id be happy. have him play the rest of his career here, and have two goalies we can rely on when needed.

    A perfect scenario would be us trading him now. And him coming back in the off-season at a discount. But that doesn’t seem likely. Good chance he’ll just stay and resign at a discount hopefully.
