Pretty bullshit. Sharks must absolutely love Zetterlund or Muk because I don’t see how we wouldn’t be able to beat their like fifth best prospect

  2. XJudgeBootyX

Thought Mercer would be involved. Shit.

This is really bad for us. Devils just got so much stronger.

We should have been able to match 🙁

  3. Winring86

Seems weak. Important to remember that Meier is not signed to a deal though. They could very well be paying $10MM a year for him, and I’m not sure that makes sense for us given who we have to re-sign in a couple years and some of the prospects we have on the way.

Hard not to be a little disappointed, but not going to rush to judgement yet. If we don’t go all the way at some point will always be somewhat of a “what if”

  4. TheGlaceon78

Pretty much 2 (maybe 1) 1sts, a solid prospect, and a bunch of scraps

How did we not match or beat this

  5. There were always rumors that SJ and NJ had a pretty sweetheart deal going on where the Sharks were willing to do them a favor in this

It appears to have come to fruition. Absolutely zero chance that this was their best offer. Their GM has a family relationship with NJ, and nepotism paid off today

  6. Realistic_Lab_176

Wow, and we get to keep our “chemistry”

I think it was the roster player part we probably wouldn’t budge on plus we wouldn’t give Nikishin. So we could’ve done 2023 1st, and any combo of prospects not named above but nothing like Turbo or roster players like Z.

    Really aggressive by canes FO…

Edit: downvote all you want but sometimes getting the player is equally as important as not letting him end up somewhere else in your division. With this trade and Kane presumably heading to New York it’s going to be a dogfight just to win the metro.

Did people think we were going to give up 4 prospects and 2 1sts? Without a deal in place for extension?

I think it’s important to realize we don’t know how SJ values our prospects. There are so many variables to this stuff. I’m not worried about it.

I’m not going to get my hopes up this trade deadline but there has to be something better than a deal for Nick schmaltz

  11. Whydoesthisexist15

I’m guessing Grier either wanted Jarvis or some roster player or something. Top of my head Morrow Trikozov/Gunler and 2 1sts is decent no?

  12. Okay, I’m not devastated or going to act like we’re deceased, but I don’t understand how we didn’t match this honestly. No Mercer or Nemec? I really feel like we could have made a deal like this. My faith in our (lack of) moves is being tested…

  13. RumRunner323

So no Mercer, Hughes, Holtz, or Nemec, unreal… SJ got hosed here. Hard to believe we couldn’t top that. We have to win the division now as NYR and NJD will be murderers row, not that any playoff run is easy, but at least winning the division allows them to beat up each other first.

NJD just got much better this year and didn’t touch their top prospects. If they sign Timo to an extension, they will run the Metro for the next several years.

Donnie is gonna have to pull a rabbit out the hat now. Schmaltz isn’t a sexy name but he’s a solid plan E. Plus he has a decent contract at $5.9MM AAV for three more years.

Who gives a shit? Our boys are our boys and there is ample reason to have faith in this team.

  15. ghcfc88

That’s a real no brainer for the Devils

  16. grandBBQninja

Imagine if Meier didn’t resign with NJ and we pick him up for free in the offseason.

  17. DrMoneyline

What? People are angry we didn’t match this?

Devils gave up one, and maybe two first round picks, the 6th overall draft pick from 2020 who is a phenomenal prospect, 61st overall prospect who will also be a solid third liner, and a Jesper fast equivalent. That’s a lot for a two month rental, who isn’t even guaranteed to play well for their team.

That is a cup or bust move for them.

The Sharks are masterclass for getting all that for someone who was guaranteed to leave in April. Glad we didn’t bite

    Edit: 20th overall not 6th*

We’ve got people who’d never even heard of Timo Meier two months ago, in here rending their garments and gnashing their teeth over this. Fucking relax, already. It’s not like we missed out on Gretzky. He’s a good player. He’s not The Great One.

We’ve got a lot of players on the roster who are going to be free agents soon. They’re going to want a raise and they deserve one. Getting Meier *and keeping him* would probably have meant losing Jarvie now, and Aho, Slavin or Necas later.
You’ve got to think about sustainable success in the NHL. Small market teams can’t think short-term. We’ve got $10 million in cap space. We’re going to need every dime of it.
