we overpaid for just 1 guy lmao anyone else who thinks this is a « good deal » and wants to suck off JBB if this guy turns out to be shit and does nothing in the playoffs/ if we lost all of those picks for nothing
anonymousmouse17
Absolute dogwater. We gave up all those picks for another Bellemare but with 5 more assists

Leafs fan here.
This is such a Julien Briesbois move, and you just know he will sign the Nick Paul extension after he has a tremendous playoff series.
This team is in win now mode, what a great trade
Gomillionaire1206
In JBB we trust, y’all thought we overpaid for Hagel, Coleman, And Goodrow but if it gives you a better chance at getting a 3rd cup in 4 years who cares. You won’t even remember who the teams draft with those picks we trade to them so let it play out. Picks mean nothing when your window is now.
Bigstakes7287
I agreed with all of the trades JBB has made before but this one is bat shit crazy. I heard from the leafs podcast they were looking at TJ but who cares? This is a full overpayment for a guy who hits more than vlad or bellmare. 5 picks and Foote? I hope we go on another deep run or two before the fall, before we become Chicago.
That_Shadow_Siren
I mean… JBB has shown to be quite the master trader in the past. I remember when I questioned him when he gave a 1st rounder for Goodrow and look how that worked out. Gotta trust him at this point.
Mayflower023
Better than it looks. Give it time. Last year Jeannot scored 24 goals and led the league in hits I believe. He’s having a down year but he reminds me a lot of Paul. He’ll prove his worth in time
TBLvl4
I mean in a few months Jeannot will have a Conne Smythe trophy pedigree and a Stanley Cup so I guess you gotta pay extra for that 😉
StPatrick174
Boat parades over picks.
Gomillionaire1206
Foote was a bust
Gomillionaire1206
“Despite pacing all rookies in goals (24) and hits (318) in 2021–22, Jeannot was not nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy. This marked the first time in NHL history an eligible player lead his class in goals and was not nominated for the award.” The scoring intangibles are there. This guy is gonna be the next Hagel and a valuable asset to the team who’s already stacked.
Gregx007
Foote was for free lets be honest lol
Ashamed-Fondant-5504
JBB playing real life NHL 23 and adding as many future picks as it takes to get the guy he wants. One of the craziest trades I’ve ever seen but I definitely like what Jeannot brings to the team. He’s basically a different version of Yanni Gourde. Jeannot can score goals at a higher rate but Yanni is the more complete player, which is why Jeannot only has a $800k cap hit. I’ve wanted him on the Bolts for a long time. The return is crazy for NSH, but those picks won’t help the Bolts win a Cup any time soon while Jeannot can. Definitely raises an eyebrow, but so did Coleman, Goodrow and Hagel. I’m not ecstatic about the price, but definitely love the player we got.
MrSCR23
I mean that’s a bit much to bolster the forward core when the blue line is still a huge problem. At least part of that problem is gone, good riddance Foote.
Flergy_Derg
Win now mode…..if you care about the amount of picks, then you don’t get it. We NEEDED fwd depth and we got it. Exact kind of player you love to have in the playoffs. Solid get. Big price, but wtf are those picks gonna do for us when we’re in a window?
Edit: A trade like this also has just as much to do with he cap situation in the coming years. He’s gonna be an RFA and should be a relatively cheap re-sign. Exact reason we got Hagel.
Mountain_Anywhere645
Have to assume this kid is viewed as a long term guy for us with all we gave up. Offensive talent potential for the bottom 6. No reason to think he can’t turn things around on the vaunted Lightning roster. And willing to fight just about anyone, which is always a nice insurance policy. Foote has never really turned into what we needed from him, so I don’t mind it. That’s a ton of picks, though. But JBB is nothing if not calculating…and successful. Trust in him and play the waiting game for this return.
CruelRuin
obviously on first blush it looks expensive as hell. pretty good forechecker, physical player. big hitter. preds have been awful this year which haven’t helped his stats.
what i’ve noticed is that the preds probably didn’t want to move jeannot. and that makes sense ofc – young rfa, entire team stinks, why not keep the guy. i’d bet that preds fans are thinking « damn…i liked jeannot but you can’t say no to that deal ». that’s usually a pretty good sign.
anyway, we should all probably at least watch the guy for a few games before going nuts over the price tag. top 9 is some combo of kuch point stamkos cirelli killorn hagel paul colton jeannot. pretty good

This one raised my eyebrows. I generally trust in JBB – he’s given us plenty of reasons in the past – and do understand the short term rush in win now mode, but is JBB planning on leaving in like 4-5 years (or being fired) bc the team will collapse around that time without any clear higher draft prospects… We’ve gotta have something to keep things going, jeezus.
Yah we’ve done fine cultivating later draft guys (or even undrafted ones) and I love what he could bring to the table but we gave up sooo much for one guy, and this sure as hell has nothing to do with Foote (he was a give away, clearly Coop wasn’t big on him). Dudes gotta be willing to work to make in the league and not all of them will.
Does JBB have a secondary plan in place where maybe we get Schenn from Vancouver as well and when we can’t afford to keep Jeannot after this cup run, he treks there (so he’s basically a rental)? We’ve got no way to keep the guy after this as he’ll be looking for a nice raise. Personally, I had my money on Schenn for Foote since his Daddy is in Vancouver and they cost about equal. Guess they didn’t want Foote there either. Is that called waiting for the other Foote to drop?
BALTIM0RE
Jeannot was a STUD his rookie season scoring more goals and hits than any other rookie. The whole Preds team has been down this year. I Trust JBB found a diamond.
Three_Froggy_Problem
I don’t know anything about this guy because I don’t like the Preds, but I’m excited to see what he brings to the team. I do trust JBB, so I assume he sees something in this guy that he thinks we need. And I can’t say I’m sad to see Foote go.
That said, I have a serious question: what are we going to do in a few years when we have guys aging out of their prime and basically no draft picks in sight? It’s obviously fun right now, but are we setting ourselves up for a long dark period somewhere down the line?
MonarchChonarch
Holy overpay but in JBB we trust. (Also where 2x retained McDonagh)
JCE_13
Remember when we questioned the hagel trade but now he has almost double the points of both johnson and raddysh combined
Mangos4Lyfe
I read that he’s probably the only guy over the last two years with 25+ goals and 20+ fights. Toughness, which we all know from the last 3 playoff runs, is crucial, and this dude is TOUGH

I like it. How often do you get a core like we have with Stammer, Vasy, Kuch, Heddy, and Point? You’ve gotta do whatever you can to maximize your cup chances during that window. Our third line DESPERATELY needed a boost, Paul has been held back badly by it. Not only do we get a good player in Jeannot, but this will elevate Paul and Colton’s play as well. We may have a few rough years in the future when our core is aged/retired due to the lack of draft capital to bring in talent, but it is absolutely worth it to give ourselves the best possible shot at another cup(s).
SpecialistVast6840
I trust the process.

Jeannot is going to be a fan favorite you heard it here. Gritty team player. But what’s the honest beat on Foote?
Mindless-Ad9757
Welcome to Tampa kid!
tonythetrigger
Definitely a « win now » move. Jeannot will add even more annoyance to an already annoying third line to play against. I was honestly afraid he’d be going to Toronto, so this is a win win in my eyes. Beautiful trade as always. I wish JBB was my real dad.
roham_josi
Probably late to the party but here are my thoughts as a Preds fan who LOVED Jeannot:
Last season he was the spark plug for our team. And I don’t mean that he occasionally had a big hit or whatever. I mean he basically ran the 3rd line and our 3rd line was taking the opening faceoff every game. We started the season really slow and the second Jeannot was called up to the NHL we started flying. He was THE culture guy last season. I can’t understate how important he was last year.
There’s a ton of stories about his personality. His WHL team, The Moose Jaw Warriors, renamed their gym after him because he’s a fucking animal. First guy in, last guy out type of guy. He’s so good he went from the ECHL, to the AHL, to the NHL in one season.
He fights, he lays hits, he scores. I’m not surprised Tampa wants him.
This season is a different story. To be fair to Jeannot, the Preds are a dumpster fire. Our coach found a way to grind everyone to a halt. Personally I don’t think he can get back to his peak season. But on a team that has a lot of offensive talent he could be a 15 goal scorer who excels in beating the absolute shit out your opponent. I think you overpaid on paper but I also think you’re gonna love this dude if he can find the back of the net again. Tom Wilson is his ceiling. Real fucker who you hate to play against.
