We wouldn’t be here without David.

The bottom dropped out in a way that put Poile in a rough spot. Built a contender roster and then we have retirements, expansion drafts, and significant injuries that gut half our star players for next to nothing in return.

He had us in the playoffs in 16 out of his 24 seasons, and probably gave us three separate teams that were at least capable of winning the cup (2005-2007, 2012, and 2017-2019). We just never had the luck and good fortune to see it come to fruition. That’s about all you can do as a GM is put us in a position where it’s possible, and he did. I’ll choose to remember him fondly, and I’m happy he understood and stepped aside when it was time to move on.

Edit: 15 out of 24* Counting is hard.

Dude deserves a Pekka like send off on 4/14.

The franchise would probably not still be in Nashville without your efforts. Thank you.

You are a first-class person and professional.

In the ‘win-now’ culture world we live in, it seems unlikely a GM will ever stick around this long with a team, even more so an expansion team, again. It’s going to be weird not expecting Poile to fleece other GMs in trades that you always marveled at, only to watch him seemingly every year overpay for checking line centers and 3rd pair Dmen at the trade deadline. His track record for drafting defensemen was second to none (seriously check it out) and his inability to draft scoring line forwards was also, second to none. His amazing longevity with the franchise was also almost equally impressive that he hired only 3 head coaches during his tenure.

So thanks Diamond Dave, you probably stuck around a year too long and remained loyal to your head coach also a year too long, but you were owed the benefit of the doubt to try and right the ship. In the meantime get Trotzy as many picks as possible and get the dead weight out as best you can.

He tried. I appreciate him for building competitive rosters and helping us be relevant. Always will have a soft spot for poile.

But he’s been in the league since the Jurassic age and still hasn’t won a cup. It’s time; he doesn’t have it. Love ya Poile, but adios.
