I think this is still way more likely to happen than a Ekholm trade.
Nashville isnt eating 3+ million in retention for 4 years and thats the only way the deal works for them. The oilers have only 10 million in cap next year with 14 players.
Edmundson can accomplish the thing they need. Someone who can play in the top 4 who isnt making top 4 money. The habs can realistically do a 2 year retention to make it work or take back foegele.

I made a post on the Oilers subreddit a while a go asking what they would give for Edmundson… 99% of them were very adamant of nothing wanting him for free and were saying that he would be their 8th deffenseman or so…
Now I really want a trade to go down just to spite them💀

I don’t think Eddy is all that the Oilers are missing but do think he would be a good fit for them. With their cap situation it will be tough for them to make a big move.
Had such high hopes for this trade deadline with Monahan, Edmundson, Dadonov, Hoffman, Drouin but between injuries and guys just not finding their game its looking pretty grim right now. I am not sure if we wouldn’t be better to hang onto Edmundson, If he managed to stay healthy he would be worth a lot more next trade deadline, right now with the back issues I am not expecting much of a return. Can’t see getting much or anything for Monahan now but I would be curious what it would cost to keep him, loved what we saw from him when he did play.
Edmonton has no cap space, so even if we retain 50% (for 2 years nonetheless) they’re gonna need for us to take some cap dump as well.
Ideally, we retain 50% on Edmundson, take on Puljujärvi’s entire 3M and get a pick on top for our troubles of giving Edmonton more cap space to work on another trade.
