As a musician I have to say, if I got hired by a band for a shockingly high wage and performed sub par according to my pay I would get fired!
If it was a contract gig and I couldn't get fired but there was a chance we could augment the band to make my sub par playing more acceptable and the only thing preventing it was the fact that I accepted a contract that crippled the band's ability to hire someone I would in all honestly and humility say, "here take some of my over pay and hire someone. "
Imagine living in a world where someone like Nurse goes to management and says , "I want our team to succeed but my pay grade is preventing that extra piece from being added so let me renegotiate for a fair value and let's add a player or two to make us real contenders!" The city and team would love him forever, it would relieve some pressure on him that he HAS GOT to be feeling, and he would play better or at least within his cap hit and everyone would be happy.
He's not going to do it obviously, but a fair and humble and modest person sure tf would!
