I’ll give everyone a chance to prove themselves with a blank slate. As important as historical data is, multiple factors can affect past/future performance.
I’m willing to look past his VAN performance if Donny and GMKA believe he fits into our playbook and style. Until proven otherwise.
This is all great, but also what is he going to say?
“Sabres coach Don Granato said he’s pissed by Stillman’s skill set. They think he’s going to suck and it’s going to be a challenge getting him to be competent. His prior experience is irrelevant and he has no clue why Adams made the trade because his play style does not fit at all.”
New gangmember for Krebs and Cozens to roll with. I wonder what the initiation is? I hope he hits someone.
I’m actually excited by this move. If there’s one thing we’ve seen it’s that this staff can unlock potential or get players to play to their strengths. Sure, he has to learn our system, but once he does I think he’ll thrive. Look at Jost as an example. Multiple players come here and are allowed to make mistakes and play to their strengths rather than be forced to fit a certain mold.
What if he shows to be a player similar to Jost where you want to keep him around in a bottom pairing role. I think the upside is good and am glad we’re trying to do something without breaking the bank. At the very least we need depth on D and I’m glad he can provide that
It’s a reasonably low cost move to bring a guy in at potentially his lowest value. He’s had success on a team that played a similar style and they figure he’s worth the price to see if Donny can work his magic. This one’s a low cost lottery ticket that can’t be judged by whether it works or doesn’t in the end. It’s a coin flip with high potential upside and I like it.
The one thing I noticed from BB&G is the Kevyn has a very collaborative process when it comes to making moves. In one of the videos, he called Okposso to tell him some news. He spoke with Donny about potential targets. He consulted his analytics guys. This isn’t a decision he made on his own. It seems like the kind of trade where Donny will be able to get him where he needs to be on the team
