Are we going for a Bedard trade up 👀

  2. Soto4Life

Awesome return. Got their two first rounders (Reid equivalent) + a fourth. Also will be able to flip Barrie either at this years deadline or next

Edit: the more I look at this the more absurd the return is. Barrie is having a really good season and only makes 4.3 mill. Feel like we could flip him for a first if we retained 25%

  3. buddybooh

I don’t know enough to know if the return is good but both sides seem happy

  4. Tnenforcer

Solid return. We’ll miss you Ekky.

  5. vulcanizedflubber

I am A-fucking-OK with that return

  6. degadale3

We get a serviceable D-man having a great year, quality prospect, a 1st and fourth. That’s a return you want if you’re building a future. Hate to see Ekholm go though. Hope he gets himself a ring this year if we don’t make it

  7. bomberfan2

Ekholms been one of my absolute favs over the years. I’d fight to the death for him. Overall it’s a good return. A first this year while we host the draft, no idea on Schaefer but he’s playing on one of the best teams in the CHL right now in Seattle and is PPG. We are absolutely flipping Barrie for more assets no doubts, could be another 2nd coming our way. Best of luck Ekholm, you’ll be missed so so dearly.

I love the Barry Trotz take two era.

  9. Shadow6921

Great return for his age+cap hit+ term with zero retention. Excited to see how he plays in Edmonton.

Edit: Just saw that we were retaining 4%. Oh well. It’s negligible.

  10. ISurvivedCOVID19

As an Oilers/Preds fan this feels like a win win for both teams. Great trade

  11. artaiten

Fucking HATE seeing Eky go, but hope he gets to lift the cup this year. Great return for him, build that future boys.

  12. Birdhawk

Looks like Edmonton is my West. Conf. wagon this year.

  13. snophone

Beauty haul. Sad to see ekky go but Poile/trotz making the right moves

  14. HammerT4R

Although I like Ek, Preds can’t keep two (McD the other) aging dmen who both have more years left on their contract than the time it will probably take to rebuild the organization. I’m good with making the move.

  15. TwinTowersJenga

Looking forward to seeing Schaefer in MKE, maybe even at the end of this season for the playoffs.

  16. theswtorguys

Love the return but I’m gonna miss Ekky. Lots of good memories, man

  17. TheKid_BigE

Great return, draft is loaded and we can pick quite well and hopefully land two studs. Barrie was a nice surprise too

  18. Seib7290

This has been quite the past few days for us Preds Faithful. This might be the most roster turnover we have ever seen in one season.

It’s sucks seeing Eky go, but the return is about as good as it could get. Obviously having 2 1st round picks this year is HUGE. Looks like we will have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds this year. Add in a top prospect, who has great size, and Barrie with his fantastic year offensively (and he’s under contract through next season).

I see a lot of people saying we can flip Barrie by Friday. I don’t see why we don’t let him play the rest of the season and see what we go with him.

  19. Hitches_chest_hair

EDM fan here. Take care of our boy.

  20. NoKneeHobbit68

This is good news objectively and the franchise is better for it.

That being said I hate this so much.

  21. Illustrious-Gain-863

I like this return. Personally I would’ve preferred Phillip Broberg (replace a key defensive piece with someone who could hopefully develop into one), but Schaefer should be a great pickup regardless, not to mention the picks & Barrie, who could be flipped for even more assets

That said this preference could be rendered moot if the Preds use the first rounder on someone like Theo Lindstein or Cam Allen, or even trade up to get Dave Reinbacher or Axel Sandin Pelikka to build up the future d-core.

  22. ArsonHoliday

I know that we obviously are rebuilding but this makes me so sad and I’m scared of what comes next

  23. NSF_Ghost

Oilers fan here, I loved Barrie. And he’s a great locker room / team guy as well. You guys will love him in the city for sure.

  24. stretcherjockey411

One of my all time favorite Preds. Him going to the Oilers makes my decision super easy on who to root for in the playoffs this year if/when the Preds don’t make it.

  25. Will the last Pred out of Bridgestone please turn off the lights?

  26. kuzcospoison

Will gladly root for Edmonton come playoff time. Bye bye to our beloved Swedish Redwood

  27. vulcanizedflubber

I watched Eks presser for a while and that was big fucking mistake. Fuck me it hurt.

  28. Please_obtain_taco

Thank you for your service, thank you for the return 👍🏻

  29. MusicCityJayhawk

For today, I like this move. Barrie scores more then Ekholm, but he is not the same defender. He also helps resolve the log-jam at LD, because Barrie plays RD.

Fabbro’s days are absolutely numbered now, because now we have way too many RDs. Could see us flipping Barrie before Friday and also moving Fabbro because we have the depth to do it at the moment.

To pick Barrie up, a 1st, and Edmonton’s 1st from last year for him is not bad.

Here is the scouting report from Elite Prospects on Schaefer:

He receives pucks directly into his shooting pocket, using the weight of the puck to transfer his weight and load his stick. When acting as the stationary net-front presence, he shows quick hands in-tight and pulls off the odd high-skill shot. If he’s providing support, he’s getting open just outside the slot for catch-and-release wristers and one-timers. -EliteProspects 2022 NHL Draft Guide

  30. thewinterzodiac

As an Oiler fan I loved that his first statement was that he couldn’t wait to help and mentor the young guys

  31. absoluteunits17

Barrie is going be unreal for you guys. Love the dude. Unreal off the ice too. Great locker room guy. Decent defender and excellent offensively.

Treat him well, see you Tys 🙁

  32. DBTornado

I’ll miss you Ekky, but holy frijoles what a return.

  33. dubgeek

God dammit, at this rate there’s gonna be too many secondary teams for me to root for in the playoffs.

  34. roham_josi

Poile flipped a broken Ellis into Glass and Myer. Traded Myer for McDonagh. Kept McDonagh as a replacement for Ekholm. Traded Ekholm for a good D man, and 1st and a 19 year old prospect.

    Out: Ellis and Ekholm
In: Barrie, McDonagh, Glass, Schaefer, a 1st and a 4th.

We still sure he should be retiring?

  35. ItsNotSpaghetti

Man we’re killing it with these trades so far
