  1. When DEFENSE is a problem on your team, the last thing you need is an offensive defenseman who's weak in the corners. Good pick up Oilers…

  2. This trade really moves the needle for the Oilers, now they can win a single game in the Western conference finals but still lose to the Avs in five games. Much better

  3. Man as a oilers fan this is the worst trade I’ve seen In years. We were supposed to add a defenceman to our core not get rid of our best current defence men? Everyone saying he’s a upgrade but is he that overwhelmingly better than Barrie that we are Stanley cup competitive? Fleeced. Nurse is going to make Ekholm look like a top 6

  4. 4% isn't that strange when you consider that is 250k (as per cap friendly)

  5. Schaefer has bottom 6 potential. Showed nothing in the WJC.
A late 1st, and Barrie is cheap for Ekholm. Barrie is the biggest loss.
    Biggest loss for Nash?
You get to retain 3 players. And Nash wasted 4% for 3 years lmao.

  6. As a kings fan I’m disappointed in my team right now cause they’re playing HORRIBLE hockey and we haven’t done any trades yet when we need a goalie badly and better defense cause all our guys do is chase players the entire game leaving open players and easy passes every game.

  7. I don’t like it. Trade the quarterback of the best power play the nhl has ever seen for a guy with 5 goals this year. How can I get excited about that.

  8. Defensively, good move. Barrie is defensively weak as is Karlsson. However, unless Nurse steps up and Bouchard cleans up his defensive skills, they are no further ahead imho.

  9. Great trade for the oilers. Wishing them the best from a leafs fan.

  10. People forget how bad Nashville’s offence has been the past 10 years even with all the success bottom 10 pretty much every year but they’re defence won then games. Ekholms offensive numbers are gonna skyrocket.

  11. Expensive acquisition for EDM, but you need to pay for quality. I would have preferred that they included the 2024 1st instead of Schaefer as Schaefer is developing well and is closer to being ready to play. That said, both are really unknowns.

  12. Barrie was my favorite d man and believe underrated by all oilers fans, I under stand though the cap space, but Mattias is Going to be more noticeable, he will be punishing and give an aggressive side we needed more of

  13. The limited offence from Ekholm doesn't matter. The Oilers are absolutely elite offensively, they don't need anymore which is why losing Barrie doesn't matter to much. Ekholm's great defence is what matters.

  14. This is a fascinating trade. I'm happy to see a defensive defenceman come the Oilers' way, and this absolutely addresses the Oilers' biggest need. The loss of Barrie is kind of bittersweet. I really like the guy, but for the last year or two, people have been complaining about his defensive abilities. But he's so good offensively. I think we'll miss that, but Bouchard and Broberg are likely to take over that role in the coming seasons. Plus Ekholm is someone who can really help Bouchard and Broberg develop.

  15. Love it, the Oilers needed this. Feel terrible for Barrie though we loved him here.

  16. Great trade for the Oilers. Hopefully losing Barrie doesn't hurt the PP much but the boost defensively should make up for it. Barrie has been better defensively the last couple of years in EDM than he was in TOR. Still not great defensively but not as bad as people seem to think although he has been playing down the lineup at even strength. Schaefer could be a great piece for NSH going forward. He's big, tough, mean and plays with an edge. Not sure if he'll be able to score at the NHL level but there's room for a guy like that in the bottom 6 of any team.

  17. Had to watch this twice because it took my brain took that long to process Steve not in a Leafs jersey.
